hellow my name is jeremy and i just recently got an anemone. it is a green tip bta. it was very larg in size at the store and i took it home and let it sit in the water for 20 min then added it to mine. i left sit for 5 hous and it didnt look good. so i then cheked the water. i have
ph 8.0 and after a 30 gallen water change to get the salinity right over night it changed to 8.8 and that is what it is at now. i have added an A and B supplement for the fish store to buffer it.
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
nitrate 0
phosphate 0
copper 0
calcium 380 after water change aswellshould be going up now with A B supplement
salinity 1.021

ok also it gettes to a better size and shape at night "huge" ??? humm

and another thing i have a 75 gal 3"sum live rock 10 gal refug 10 gal wet dry and 4X65 watt pc 10k and 1X 96 actanic i am going to put the other 2 65 watt back up there. so there will be six. now the fish store had them under MH.

well any help would be awesome thanks alot

I'm going to have to assume that you left it floating in the bag for 20 minutes. They need to be acclimated a little better than that.

What I do is acclimate them by the drip method. I spend an hour minimum. This gets the anemone used to the chemistry of my tank, and the temp. Before I add them to my tank, I will test the temp of both, if they are different, I will then do the float in the bag method.

However, it is not unusual for an anemone to take some time to adjust to it's new surroundings.

It is important to get your PH and all chemistry stable before adding anything new to your tank. Your salinity is also low. I would aim for a 1.025 - 1.026. But be careful when you increase it, it needs to be done slowly.

How are you testing your salinity? How old is your tank?

30 gallon water changes in a 75g? Salinity 1.021? PH 8.8? Not even close to a suitable environment for an anemone.

Slow down, do better research. You've been at this for only 2 months (looking at your posts this is your 2nd unsuccessful anemone). Get your system stable for a few months before attempting another one.

the first anemone came with the tank. i got it off i guy i know so everthing should be good. also does any one know why the anemone does so much better at night it looks so good right now is it b/c at night the ph changes???
i am using deep six to test salinity and right now it is at 1.025 and i just checked ph and it is 8.2
this is all with no light why am i getting such diff readings when the lights are on????

If your using anything other than a refractometer to check your salinity, IMO your making a big mistake. I'm not familiar with the deep six, but I'm going to have to assume it is those test strips that you dip into the water and they give you a reading on everything. Do yourself a favor, get rid of them, spend the extra money and get yourself some good test equipment. You will thank yourself a thousand times over in future.

At this point there could be so many things that could be affecting your anemone: salinity, PH, the move, your test kit, the food your giving it, lighting (age of the bulbs).

Power compacts are really inferior for lighting an anemone ... if you are going to try it... you really need to make sure that your system is really close to perfect so there are no other causes to stress them out... also what is your tanks temperature... and coming from MH to PC's is going to really be tough on them.

addiosoms,

I can understand the money thing, I've reached into my wallet for my credit card many times for this hobby. But I would rather do that than watch my beautiful livestock die.

82 is not extremely warm, don't see a need for a chiller.

What kind of water are you using RO? RODI? Tap? Store bought?

You can float bags of ice if the temp gets too high. I've done it before when a pump has overheated. Just don't put to much in at once, you want to bring the temp down slowly.

ic ic thanks alot man that is a lot of help i have an RODI on the way but prev i was using tap which i live on a well system. i know that is not good also.

addiosoms,

Where do you live, maybe someone on this forum could come over and check out you situation. You may want to think about letting someone else watch your nem until you get everything straightened out. Just trying to help, trust me, I know this hobby is frustrating when you are starting out.

oops, hit the wrong button

you really need to get rid of the nem, or it will die.

Well water is not good, you PH, everything is way off.

Take some time, get to know the hobby. Find a local reefer that is willing to take in your anemone for a while.

These are delicate creatures. I know it's hard and you want to have everything all at once, but it takes a lot of time.

when the rodi comes in how long do you think for water to get better i have a fefug also so it should help out a lot more right??

addiosoms,

I will gladly take your nem in, I live in Morris, work in Joliet, and I will glady give it back to you when you are ready, with no charge, cause I love nems.

I will also come over, take a look at your tank, and you are more than welcome to come over and take a look at all 3 of mine.

I would be more than welcome to help you out.

As far as the RO/DI system, when it comes in, can't even begin to comment, I think you have more things going on right now than just your initial water.

I disagree. Many of us have kept out RBTA's/BTA's under PC lights for a long time, myslef for over 2 years now, ... so it can be done and my anemone is very happy. But it does depend on the anemone species, and husbandry techniques, ... but please do not discount the PC's.
