Dont Use Reef Calcium By Seachem

Yup That Stuff
This stuff is bad. Seachem flat out denies any possibility that reef calcium (calcium gluconate, a calcium supplement that is bonded with a polygluconate for faster coral metabolism of calcium) can trigger the growth of nuisance algae. well my friends think it is just a coincidence???

"Finally, it has been anecdotally reported that the use of polygluconate calcium can cause problem algae blooms. The manufacturer denies this is a possibility, and many hobbyists report using the product without problem algae blooms. "

that was stated in this artical which i wich i would have found before i started using it...
calcium

just thought every one should know before useing this product...and if you still want to use it...i have a free bottle...lol...

sorry just thought i should mention that my tank and prop tank look like the first picture. i could really get the mucus in the pic to show it in the main tank well enought. oh and i should mention that this happened in about a day and half from the first dosing of this stuff...

ahh here is another happy surprise about this s***...the slim/algea doesnt grow slowly....i sucked it off of my proptank's shelf and with in and hour and a half it was back and just as long...great stuff...

Sorry that you had a negative impact (since I told you about this product). I have used this product (sparingly) for years with excellent results. Perhaps it is best used in a very mature system when the glucanate can be fully metabolized. A prop system may not be suitable for this product since there is not nearly enough bacillum. I'll take your leftovers though.

I also use the product without a problem, but I use the reef complete (liquid) or reef advantage calcium powder to maintain levels. I only use reef calcium occasionally. The reef calcium metabolises quickly and isnt good for maintaing levels.
The latter two also contain a much higher calcium content per dose.

yea i was just using it for the first time...not to boost calcuim in place of dosing or any thing just seeing what it would do...lol...i only used two cap fulls for about 90 gallons of water. it looks like it is going away now...maybe in a few days ill just try and use half a cap and see if i get any algea reaction.

oh wow, I use two capfuls twice a week on my 37... but its well established, so maybe it can break it down better....
