i hate it when a priced piece goes up in flames in a matter of a night. my beautiful green slimer that i had for a few months of great encrusting and OMG what color, i looked at it today and half was bright white, so i chopped it trying to save what i can.

I hate RTN.

i know right?

Cully n I have been hurtin units over the past few months with all sorts of problems. Must be our drinking habit.

i think i just figured out why it RTN'd.

yesterday my ATO was empty and my tank was receiving a nice amount of micro bubbles for god knows how many hours. prolly a good part of the night. and the corals thats in direct shot of my return was my slimer

that sound right?

Ya you gotta hate it. I had of all corals an orange digi RTN. Hardy coral go figure. Tank parameters were spot on.

If there was a correlation between drinking and poor coral health, I'd have been outta this hobby a long time ago

It has been a rough summer for sure though. The heat hasn't been the issue as much as an irratic work schedule and the bambina. Inconsistent maintenance and less than optimal water quality is no doubt the source of my troubles. But, sometimes it just happens and you never really get an answer. I have learned though, that if there is so much as one polyp left on a frag/colony, it's got a shot at a come back.

Yes, they do come back many times. It just takes a long time in some cases.

I'm on a good streak, near 2 yrs without a non sting related stn. Now I've jinxed it. Keeping everything, particularly alk, sg,temp, PO4:< .07, NO3:<1ppm, stable and constant seems to do it along with heavy flow, timely pruning and well aerated water. Steady vodka/vinegar dosing along with gac and heavy skimming and a bit of gfo seems to work very well.I also run a little polypad just in case some metal toxicity builds up.

well i saved 2 x 2" pieces by choppin it before it got consumed. YAY

it was def either the bubbles or the fact that i have a very agressive favia within tentacle reach of it.....was never an issue before though with that. who knows

all i know is, I HATE RTN lol

This is a prime example why its so important to frag all of ur corals once they are all settled in and growing.

Sorry to hear ur loss green slimers are nice esp when they get right lighting and have good pe. I love mine.
