Dos more?

So over the last few days ive found out that my salinity was very high (1.035~). I calibrated my refractometer wrong but have since ordered calibration fluid. This explains why everything was very high.

Anyways my salt is finally at a good lvl (1.025~) and by getting it lower i have gotten everything else lower. Now the calcium is all good since it was about 700~(is now 420~). But the alkalinity shot down and is now at 5. Ive dosed already today for adding 1 more dkh using this site But i didnt see a noticeable different when i test. i did this yesterday when it was at 6 trying to get it to 7 but it didnt do much either.

So im wondering if i can dos more today to raise it to 6dkh (ive been told i shouldn't raise it more than 1dkh per day)Also i have a 40 gallon breeder.

Whats in the tank?
If corals then its best to go slow..
If nothing then dose away..

Its dose not dos by the way..
dos is an old operating system and the Spanish word for the number 2

I've gotten it up since this thread, I have 2 clowns and like 3 corals no sps or anything

If your magnesium is below 1200, the dkh will not rise no matter how much you dose. Check and fix that and the rest will straighten out. I keep my mg at about 1350.

You should be able to dose the dKH up to 6 with some baking soda if you have a good volume estimate for the actual amount of water in the system. I'd try a dose, and then measure 5-10 minutes later, to make sure that the amount was correct. This calculator might help:

If the magnesium level is very low, then raising the dKH might be difficult, but even 1000 ppm for magnesium should be fine. I ran for years at 1100 ppm because Instant Ocean came at that level.

After dosing the dKH up to 6, I'd try a second dose 12 hours later. The dKH might drop by quite a bit over that time period. Some of my tanks consumed 2-3 dKH per day. I'd measure in 12 hours or so, and dose the dKH up to 7.
