Dosing Chloroquine Phosphate to food?

I would be interested in reading that, as it would be contrary to everything I have read about CP's effectiveness. Using CP regularly would preclude keeping invertebrates as well.

IME, a majority of true FOWLR aren't necessarily concerned with keeping inverts, so that wouldn't really be a factor.

My personal experience at dosing 1/4tsp/10 gallons for 30 days was that there was no noticeable ich on any of the fish during(after 5 days) and right after completion of treatment. However since ending treatment, my Blueline Angel and Hippo tang, both of which have smooth skin instead of scales; have had what appear to be random ich spots. My batch of CP also came from a vet.

I have had luck using copper to completely eradicate ich in prior tanks (QT), but it was rough on some of the fish and I experienced some losses (Butterflies & wrasse). I am not convinced CP is capable of completely wiping out parasites with just one dosage.

yea I see the guy selling it on ebay ,he has 100% feedback mabey I will grab some of that .

People have had issues with the purity of the CP from the ebay seller. If you know a vet who will write a script for CP, you can use that to buy some from a local pharmacy. That's the best way to go.

What is the story with the Ebay seller? Where does his supply come from? I had a somewhat difficult time finding it prior to finally getting a vet script for it...

I tried it recently with formula 2 pellets which they normally devour aggressively. After an initial taste, they spit it out. Then I tried drenching it in garlic extreme, still spit it out.

I'm currently experimenting with a hippo that has reoccurring ich (even after 2 treatments with CP and 2 of copper). I am now trying CP treated nori by dissolving CP in water, soaking an appropriate amount of nori and then letting it dry out. So far the tang has been eating his daily half sheet but it does take a little time for the nori to soften on the clip.

I thought of trying this too, but this approach would make me wonder whether it actually stays in the nori once you put it in your tank.

My hippo and butterflys hit it pretty hard so it is consumed fairly quickly. I fold up the nori into a 2"x2" square before soaking with CP solution. When it dries its almost a solid wafer so I'm hoping not to much CP goes into the water. Time will tell if this will work or if I'll have to yank all the fish and go fallow.

Are there any definitive published studies to confirm the efficacy of CP when dealing with saltwater parasites? All I have come across are articles from 2008 claiming CP is effective, or hobbyists either claiming it worked or the flip side that it hasn't been as effective in their specific set ups.

Hey Rea sorry to hear about your fish. Are all your fish infected ?

I'm not certain tbh. There were some complications after several months of quarantining and I made the decision to just move them to the DT. So far they seem mostly fine, but my achilles is obsessed with the cleaner shrimp, so I'm a bit worried something slipped through. He has some blemishes on him but they don't look like ich, I think the shrimp is actually digging into him a bit and leaving marks. It's been almost 3 weeks, and I haven't seen any definitive ich spots. This is me trying to formulate a backup plan just in case. I really don't believe in managing ich, but if I can keep symptoms at bay so I can take a break and actually enjoy the tank for a while, so be it.

Thanks to everyone who has chimed in, I appreciate the info. To ca1ore and Alberta-newb, keep us updated on your process - and how the coral and inverts react.

I haven't read any. All of my information has come from the CP thread on this site, as well as books on marine fish disease (Noga, Goemans & Ichinotsubo). Might be worth posing the question in the CP thread. I know user alprazo has extensive experience with CP treatment. While only anecdotal, I know of several public aquaria that use CP for cryptocaryon and swear by it.
