Dosing help

Some people dose the supplements into a sump, which can be a problem, depending on the water volume and the flow.

That's where I was doing most of my doing... Think I'll move my dosing lines either to the overflow box or directly into the tank by my tunze streams

Updated results:

ALK: 8.6dkh
Ca: 350

CamBarr, the picture of your tank should not require dosing to keep parameters. what Salt are you using? Have you test your salinity? If you are dosing so much, your salinity must be really high? Also check your test kit with fresh salt mix water. If you are using the test kit properly and no problem with test kit, you should seem parameters higher than your tank water.

Hope this helps. I have been through this before.

Salinity was tested at 1.026 using refractometer. Salt I was using was Tropic Marin but I just switched to instant ocean regular

350 ppm for calcium is okay, so I think the tank should be capable of supporting good growth now.

Going to see if I can get to 400ppm CA with a DKH of 9 tank seems to be settling down a bit! Hopefully I can maintain perams will keep boating my progress and results!

Thanks for all of the help!

This would be frustrating for sure. Not sure how your test kits read but at one point I would use the remaining solution for my result instead of solution used. That caused my results to be in the 900s for magnesium instead of where it actually was 1300s. If your tank is actually at the proper levels then you would be overdosing and causing some precipitation and could account for so much flux.

Instant Ocean is not a reef salt. You will be better spend your money on Reef Crystal see link.

then you will not need to dose so much.

Thanks for the tip!

Just tested, I missed a dose and here are the results,

CA: 350ppm holding pretty steady

ALK: dropped to 7.84 from 8.68. Added 50ml ALK solution to bump back up to 8.68.

Will test later today and post results!

Just tested a hour later and my dkh is now at 9.5... What gives... Calculator stated to add 50ml to bump to 8.68??? Then I test and the dkh is up at 9.5??

I suspect that the water volume estimate is a bit off, but I wouldn't worry much yet. Which kit are you using?

Okay, the LaMotte should be a good kit, although it's likely calibrated for fresh water. It'll be a bit off in seawater, but that's okay.
