Dosing Mg/Ca/Wlk

Hello folks,

My tank is a bit off parameters. I need to get Mg back on track and then take care of Ca and Alk. Based on the sticky from sk8r Mg should be the first to tackle.
I found the Randy's formulas for the three elements. Is this still a valid approach to raise parameters and keep them stable?

Current levels are:
Mg: 1150
Alk: 9
Ca: 390

Those numbers are acceptable as is, although I'd raise the magnesium to 1260 ppm or so to match natural waters. The other parameters are right in the acceptable zone, so I'd leave them as is unless the tank is having some problems of some sort.

Thank you both!

It seems I do need to raise Mg a bit to keep it stable since it is dropping after WC. Any particular way to do it?

Magnesium you can do in fairly large doses. You would almost certainly be safe correcting it in one dose, but if you split it up into 1 in the morning, and 1 at night it might be better. Calcium you can safely raise 50ppm in one day, while Alk raises should be limited to 1DKH per day for maximum safety.

If the magnesium level is dropping after a water change, then the water for the changes has an issue. That's fairly common. I'd measure some freshly-mixed saltwater and see what's up.

I agree that 50 ppm is fine per day. Up to 100 ppm should be okay.
