Dosing pump discussion

So I can't decide which dosing pump setup to get to replace a crappy old reef angel setup. I'm debating on a pair of the standalone liter meters and controlling them with my reef angel. Don't bother trying to talk me into a jebao or BM one. I suppose I could go with a standalone but having a basement sump and equipment area makes making adjustments via wifi on the controller a little easier. I was leaning towards stepper motors, even though the lm3 isn't. Suggestions?

Oh and just dosing alk and ca so I only need two heads

Ok... So you have a Reef Angel controller, that lets out the DOS dosing pump from Neptune (Apex). In that case I will recommend the GHL Doser 2 stand alone. That one, as the DOS, can be controled by MyGHL cloud software from any part of the world and with any device.

I was going to buy it, but finish with the DOS because I have an Apex.

Cheers

I would hold out for a stepper based pump. It seems like most of the commercial use those crappy DC motor based pumps that rely on the rollers being turned by pressure on the central shaft. Not conducive to repeatability and accuracy in my book.

The Neptune DOS and GHL doser 2 have stepper motors.

I actually really wanted the dos but it seems you HAVE to have an apex to use it, shame cause I'd be all over it. I've heard good things about the ghl unit as well.....I used to think the BM may have been a good choice but a few stories of being stuck on have dissuaded me

Been using a litremeter for ato as long as I can remember, can't beat them, made in the USA,serviceable & repairable if needed.

What's ddr?

On spectrapures website I don't see the add on for it that I used to see that piggybacks two pumps to one master deal. Or seeing as I have a controller should I just get two of the "basic" lm3 and use my controller on the outlets

Yeah I saw that actually but I'm confused if that's what I would want. The basic lm3 are 100 bucks each and that looks like a regular lm3 plus remote water exchanger modules which I'm not sure if that is what I need as I'm only using for small volume dosing

Well I could control them via the reef angel, which is wifi.....maybe I worded that wrong originally..... I don't need a wifi capable unit although I'm not opposed to one, I just want the most reliable doser I can get. Whether that's two brs dosers controlled via RA or something like the pac sun or ghl stand alone

Ahhhh. That makes the decision easier. I used the BRS dosing pumps for 1 year and NO issues at all. They were controlled by a Reef Keeper Lite and after that by my Apex until in July I got the DOS.

They do not have stepper motors but tons of reefers use them as well as the ones you discussed previously (Litermeter).

Cheers
Daniel.

The BRS 1.1ml/m I've used for around 6 years straight dosing vinegar multiple times every day with 0 issues.

The BRS 50ml/m I've gone through 3 of them with in a couple years. The gears stripping seems to be an issue and others have posted similar issues with them.

Spectrapure has been rock solid for me so far. I have a stand alone dosing pump and a LM3 w/ remote pump too.

According to Spectrapure's website
LM3 on special $249
Water exchange module on special $106
Lucky to find an older model for $100.
Very accurate dosing from small amounts to more than you would need, reliability is one of their advantages.

The Litermeter price in offer is pretty high for just 1 pump. If you add another it is another $100. So we are talking of ~$350 for 2 pumps . Same price as a DOS.

For the OP, I will still suggest something like a 4 pumps GHL Doser 2 stand alone that runs at a similar price of 3 Litermeter pumps plus the water changing module. If that is the price range willing to pay.

DDR is neptune's vessel setup. I like it because I can see fluid levels on my phone through fusion
