Can we talk about dosing pumps please. I would like to use one for my two part can anyone please talk about what they have and what works? I need a dual pump so if that what you have please tell me what works.

I am using 2 aquamedic dosing pumps. They are run by the aquacontroller. You can use a digital timer (not the cheap mechanical ones with the pins) and set now many minutes to dose everyday. Mine is set at a total of 24mins a day for a 500g system. My controller turns them on 1min every hour.
 
I just bought the Litermeter 3. I am using it for just kalk right now but will use two part eventually. It only comes with 1 pump, but has the option for 3. If you need to dose two part and kalk this helps, because I do not trust float switches. You calibrate it and it breaks up the volume among 150 doses throughout the day, around every 10 minutes. Marine Depot sells them and spectrapure website ~$475 for two pumps. Love it so far.
 
I've used the one from innovative aquatics. Seems to work pretty well but needs maitenance(tubing every 3- 4 months)

I have a pump from innovative aquatics. I have only needed to replace my tubing once at about 6 months. It does wear but it only takes a few minutes to replace it.

A dosing pump and auto top off are the two things that cut my maintenance by 75%. I no longer need to do daily maintenace. Since I travel my wife feeds the tank and I do not worry about it anymore.
 
Perhaps your requierements were not as much as my 200.
I'm using a reactor now and all is well.

Zach117, I'm in the same situation, where I just ordered the Litermeter 3 and will be dosing kalk for now, eventually going to two part. My plan is to order two more pumps later, where one pump will pump fresh water, the second will pump calcium, and the third will pump the buffer/alk. But you say "If you need to dose two part and kalk this helps..."--you wouldn't be dosing both kalk AND two-part, right? It would be one or the other, right? Just trying to understand so I can set this up right.

-peristalic pumps
-cheaper than a litermeter for the same thing(doesnt say litermeter)
-medical pumps(can be used a on human, they can go on my tank)
-slowly pumps anywhere from 5 ml/hr to 850 ml/hr in 1 or 5 increments(ml) depending on which one you get
-wont overdose
-cant siphon back
-tubing lasts about 6 months to year and a half(cheap anyways)
-i use kalkoffwasser right now as it satisfies my frags requirements
-can be used as a 2 CHANNEL DOSER FOR TWO PART(OR ONE CHANNEL FOR KALK AND TOP OFF WATER)
SO IT IS VERY VERSATILE...far more precise intervals than a litermeter at that
there are tons of options like timers built in so that it only does it certain times of day, but i went standard because i wanted it distributed over 24 hours for the stability


-no need for float switches(if you have one you might as well kiss your tank bye)
-instead of buying a ca reactor i may get another one of these and use one for top off with kalk and the other for the 2 part...time will tell


-Best 180 bucks i ever spent on my tank equipment wise
 
In my case, I have a 2.5 gallon container that drips in 1 week. So I just need to make a solution every week. I use the aqua lifter to pump the water to my tank instead of gravity. This has more predictable drips than gravity.

I forgot to mention that i use those very simple devices that acts like a valve. The same one you use to control the air. they are made of plastics colore blue or green that you can buy from pet stores. I make sure that it drips 10-15 drop per 30 seconds. And that will make your 2.5 gallons last a week.

I dont dose kalkwasser right now because its connected to my top off water that is connected to a float switch. Sometimes I have a lot of evap and sometimes i dont. So that makes it hard to have the same level of calk/alk i a certain time of week.

If im going to dose kalk in the future... I will use the same aqualifter so I have control of how much is being introduced to my tank.

I've read various sources and tried reading reviews about various pumps, including the products from innovativeaquatics. I wanted something built specifically for the aquarium trade (instead of something altered) that was reliable, versatile, and be plug-and-play, and felt the Litermeter fit the bill. Like lighting fixtures, skimmers, powerheads, etc., there are so many choices, and depending on your costs/needs, some equipment will be fine for some and good for others. To each his/her own...

Some people do dose kalk along with the two-part. I believe those that do it have a high SPS load and only do it every so often. I am not exaxtly sure why you wouldnt just increase the two part, I thought it had something to do with your PH (not sure). Like I mentioned I do not do it yet because of low demand but want to have the means to if it comes to it. I will look through Randy's articles to see if I can find mention of it.
 
And I am with Paladin on the specific for the hobby thing. The whole "refurbished medical pump" made me shy. I head lots of good things about the LM3 and a few good about the Nautilis. All the things the Nautilis does, so does LM3, just has a reputable company name behind it. Their is a big price difference, I knew it and was willing to pay it.
 
i have used an aqualifter, top off switch, innovative aquatics medical pump, and they are all sitting in a closet as now I have two litermeter 3's. they are so far superior it is not a contest.

if you have the funds, a litermeter 3 is the best option imo.


to a poster above, yes you can dose kalk and two part, which is where the three pumps can come in handy.
 
also i was changing the tubing on the medical pumps every six weeks. the litermeter has gone more than a year.
 
What's up with innovativeaquatic prices...those guys used to be 112 bucks or so. Why are they $200 now?
