Dosing Pumps? - NOISE/Difference/Kalkreactor

I have a peristaltic dosing pump made for automatically dosing drain cleaner into restaurant drains. The actual "pump" looks almost identical to the Aqua Medic 3000 Dosing Pump.

When I turn it on though, the noise it makes is very loud and annoying. It sounds almost as bad as the starter on your car when your battery is dead. The motor whines and strains but it doesnt sound broken at all. I dont think I could handle this noise for a few minutes every hour.

Does the Aqua Medic make this much noise?

Also, what is the big difference in the peristaltic style pumps and these two pumps which makes them so much more expensive.

Tunze Metering Pump

Aqua Lifter

My Aqua Medics are very quiet. I can just hear a little clicking from the rotor going around, but no motor noise at all.

imo the aquamedic is the best dosing pump for the money. It's simple, no-frills, and under 100 bucks. DIYers have been trying to do the same thing at pretty much the same cost for years.

I'm familiar with the industrial soap peristaltic pumps. Your's is most likely loud because it uses a gear motor which makes a good amount of noise due to the gears. The Aquamedic uses an AC synchronous motor which is virtually silent.

Thanks Timbo,

I am glad to hear that about the AquaMedics. They look like they are very high quality and reliable.

But Im still interested in getting some first hand feedback from some people who have used the Aqualifter and the Tunze Metering Pump.

Looking back, I see that I never specified what I'll be using the pumps for. That may help! :D One will pull from my RO container and feed a PM Kalkreactor which will discharge into the sump. This will run on a simple timer sequence all day through my AquaController Jr. The second will be powered by a float switch and pull from the same RO container and feed directly to the sump.

Any help or advice on this set up idea would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I use the Aqualifter with a DIY Kalkreactor. Works great. A lot of people use Aqualifters with good success.

I use the aqualifter connected to a float switch for kalk dosing. Never had a problem with it, although I flush it with 50% strength of a dilute H3CCOOH solution every few weeks or so.

It makes no noise at all - and it's cheap too (bought it for 9.99).

thanks for the info. So can the pump sit above the water reservoir and pull water up to it? Your also saying it has plenty of pressure to push the water through a kalkreactor and into the sump?
