Dosing Suggestions

I am setting up a dosing schedule for my tank and would very much appreciate any suggested products and their weekly quantities for optimal coral growth. In particular, I am interested in what everyone is using for calcium / calcium carbonate, magnesium, strontium, amino acids and trace minerals. At this point in time, I have been using SeaChem products with their suggested weekly amounts.

Thanks in advance,

Vince

I started out using ESV 2 Part for calcium and alkalinity needs, Kent tech M for mag, Kent for Strontium, and zeovit for amino acids

It is going to depend on a few things. A couple of questions that would be helpful for us to make recommendations.

How mature is your system? What types of corals are you keeping? How packed is the system? What size is the tank? How large and frequent are your water changes?

If I was going to start fresh with a moderately sized tank and wanted to nourish my corals I would: skim aggressive, feed heavy, dose kalk and seachem mag. Simple and effective.

I use the new aqua-vitro line from Sea Chem for trace and amino acids... annnd purple up for calcium. I also add a touch of F.O.R.M. every week for fun.. oh and occasionally I throw in some Coral-vite by kent marine. Everything in my tank is happy and thriving but I admit that I'm horrible when it comes to measuring and regularity...beginners luck for now I'm quite sure.

I have a 72 gallon tank currently with:
acro (frag), anthelia(large), leather cabbage (medium), zooanthids (frag), green star polyps (frag) and birdsnest (frag).

Also, the tank is roughly 9-weeks old, and we have around 100 snails, 3 emerald crabs and 2 oscillaris. The water changes are approximately 5-gallons a week.

WOW 9 weeks old and have all those corals, it was about 4 months until I placed a mushroom in my tank when I started. If you are doing weekly or bi-weekly water changes then you are replacing a lot additives that your corals and tank needs. Like SS7 stated all depends on your load and coral type. Lugols is a must IMO, Kalk is a great start to keep your alk and cal up, also helps if you have problems with low PH. Test your water and see what your tank needs. K.I.S.S. is what I try to go by keep it simple stupid.
