Dosing Vodka

Hi, i have been trying to reduce my NO3 levels for a long time now... have been doing regular water changes (weekly) for over 6 months but at the last day end up having 10 mg . I have went through few forums and website which show addition of vodka could help me reduce the NO3 and PO4 levels. I wanted to know how safe it could be and if somebody who is already using it could give his view about it??

i dose my tank for like a month. I didn't see much different with it.
Maybe because i did not dose enough but i just wanna make sure i dont overdose it.

I dose my tank, a 65g with 1ml per day of Cane spirit(The cheapest stuff I can find in the bottle store) but any pure highly refined alcohol will do.

I have read many warning about increasing dosage suddenly but I have never had a problem.

I've been dosing 1ml/week mixed w/kalk for about three weeks. Just increased the dose to 1.5ml/week. I think it's too soon to tell if there are any benefits, but no harm done. My skimmer seems to pull out more gunk fwiw.

I would think there has to be a way to automate the dosing. I forget to do it half the time. I have a cpl infusers laying around, but they will not wok the way I was hoping they would.

i read this whole post and the atached info. and started it a week ago on my 55g and i have already noticed a algea reduction! so far so good. i have also noticed my water very clear and what few polops i have ar super extended. awsome idea!

I had a little peach fuzz on my rocks and my tang was not keeping up. I dosed a salifert calcium test kit syring (the long skinny one) on my approx 90Gallon water volume for approx one month. It did take care of my very small problem.

Again, I teated it as more of a suppliment than a treatment by only doing a small amount. After all my reading on the subject, I do not see any negative results than can happen from the vodka dosing other than overdosing.

I have been dosing for a few months now, when i did mine it was b/c high nitrates. I had a small hair algae out break after dosing " was confused i thought it would get rid of algae" , but just added phos remover and its almost gone now. I think the scrubing of rocks help the most.

as far as coral growth, my leather, montipora, acropora and candycane are all bigger but cane has not split any faster just bigger. my zoos and shrooms are like whatever.

keeps ntra at 000000000 i probolly will keep dosing till my takes old with gray hair

This whole concept of dosing an organic carbon substance is sounding better to me as I gain more experience in the hobby. I have a 300 gallon system that has some minor algea issues that I would like to correct. My question is. If you are using GFO thur a reactor should you stop it before beginning your Vodka dosing regiment. Also Just to make sure my math is correct my net water volume is approximately 275 gallons so that means that my initial starting dose should be 1.1 ml per day. Am I correct??
