Dr Roy... Bobbing

What is the significance of bobbing in Mantis? Is it purely a threat display, or is it a show of excitement such as in Parrots?

I'm not exactly sure what you are describing, but stomatopods will move their heads up and down like octopus to help them judge distance.

Hmmm okay. I was referring to moving her head up/down repeatedly. I just wasn't sure what it meant.

Thanks :)

My peacock did that 2 days before it ceased to be living :(

I'm really kind of puzzled by it, tank is on the same circuit as my display, which is having no problems whatsoever.

Do we know how far stomatopods can generally see? With their complex vision I would imagine rather far. But I could also see nature toning down that aspect in order to enhance their visual acuity for a shorter distance.

As humans living in relatively clear air and having grown up with eye charts at the DMV, we tend to equate distance with visual acuity. For a stomatopod, angle of resolution is probably more appropriate.
