Dr. Roy, G. Platysoma frequency of molt?

Thanks for taking the time to look at this, Dr. Roy.

My G. Platysoma molted about 2 months ago, going from a greenish/cream coloration to a purple/pink/cream one.

Just when I started to like pink and purple (not my favorite colors,usually...), he went in and molted...again.

:|

Now, he is back to a greenish/cream color, though with a more yellowish cast.

What gives?

He also seemed to get stuck in his cave, as I heard tapping sounds, but saw no mantis. Finally, after a week and a half, I pryed the opening apart, and it was very impacted. Perhaps something slipped; he had used a snail shell as the 'hatch', where before he used a particular rock every night. Anyways, he looked relieved to be out, throwing out his telson and dactyl shed, refused food, looked about for about ten minutes and went back in and sealed himself up again.
This time, it was without the snail shell, and I can clearly see ioen space in the doorway (he's not taking any chances, it would seem).

Is two molts in so short a time normal? If the coloration of his environment changed drastically (I had added a lot of caulerpa just before he went into the second molt), would he decide for a new look?

Now, there is a small pink/purple anemone in there with him...It's pink and purple...

:D

PS: Is it ok to leave an anemone (Florida/Atlantis pink tipped anemone, about 3" stalks) in there with him? It seems to have settled on the back side of his cave.
I ask because my tern attacked another that I added to her tank, I barely got the poor thing out, as she hit it 4 or 5 times, blowing off a few tentacles. Obviously she had met ana nemone in the wilds...?or maybe she brushed against a stalk and got stung?

Sorry for the essay.

A molt interval of 2 months is not unusual, although it is on the short side.

I suspect the addition of green had some effect on the color change.

I know of no data that suggest an increase in molt frequecy to change color.

G. p seal up longer than any gonodactylid I know - often for two weeks. He probably was not stuck and digging them out just adds to their stress - PATIENCE!

Ugh...er, I hope he's OK. He had already shed the old skin, at least.

I shall never interfere again...

Ugh, again.
