Dr Tim's One and Only

Hello everyone,

I started cycling my tank few days ago with Dr Tim's and my readings (API) are identical per the below.

26 March to 28 March
pH:8.4
Ammonia: 2.0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm

I also have Seneye Reef in my tank and it's saying my NH3 is 0.078 mg/l (PPM) and NH4 is 5.89. My pH accordingly to Seneye is 8.58.

Should I got off my API test or Seneye.

New to this and slightly confused.

Neither can be trusted really.. You have zero proof one is accurate as there is nothing to confirm its accuracy..

It really doesn't matter though..
You should stop adding ammonia if you haven't already done so..
Don't worry about ph..

The process has begun.. Relax.. This is a simple process that just takes time.. Nothing else now..

So my results from 26 March to 2 April are as follows:

Ammonia - 2
Nitirate - 0
Nitrate - 0

On 3 April

Ammonia - 1
Nitirate - 0
Nitrate - 0

So I dose more of Dr Tim's bacterial into the tank then on the next day I had the following:

Ammonia - 4
Nitirate - 0
Nitrate - 0

Today, I received my new test kit (Salifert) and the readings are as follows:

Ammonia - 1.5
Nitrite - 1
Nitrate - 25

With PH, my API test kit was showing 8.4 while my Salifert showed 8.

Based on the above, does it look like my tank is starting?

Yes.. The tank is cycling..
Just wait.. No need to add anything but fresh water to make up for evaporation (notice I said fresh water.. the salt does not evaporate so you top off with fresh water)

Yes I have only been topping it up with fresh ro water.
