Dreaded white spot

my new GSM male has a singular white spot near his tail on the right side.

I watched him for 10 minutes, and a total of 15 seconds were spent with his right side facing me. A pic is comletely out of the question the way he is acting right now (the camera is fast enough, but I, alas, am not).

So are we putting money on ich due to packaging-transfer-storage-shipping-new home?

I did a freshwater dip for two minutes for each upon arrival, but there is no way to know if ich wasnt already in the tank, as the tank has had inhabitants that went in with no QT whatsoever (yeah, I know...chalk that up to 'if I knew then...'). Another thing I wish I'd thought about is that tanks can break when they get knocked around the house, truck, office, etc while they are waiting to be used as QT tanks, which can leave you with nothing on a Saturday after a fraq swap...

so here we go:

1) catch him, and pull him out by hand to examine the white spot?
2) pull him and QT him now?
3) will a marginal drop in salinity make any difference (1.026 to 1.020) and if so, what would that do to everyone else?
4) other thoughts?

feel free to chastise--it will help other noobs recognize the importance of my recent errors--but only if you follow it up with 'and now you should...' :)

I've just noticed a white-spot on my WSM today.. It's on the top of his left eye (If he had an eyebrow, that's where it would be).

I don't know if its Ich or he hurt himself or somebody else is responsible (I have a 12 yr old Clarki that likes to chase him around every once in a while).

I will probably QT him if he doesn't heal soon, doubt I'll dip him unless there are more spots that pop up.

general consensus seems to be ... as long as fish are eating don't worry about ick too much ... but - if fish no eat & ick ... fish ready for sushi roll!

...GAH.

more dumb questions:

pic of ick at the macro level?
i stared at him for another 20 minutes...my assistant thinks i'm homicidal now thanks...and i think it might not be a 'thing' on him, but actually a white spot. i hope im wrong...only because i will have completely freaked out about a white spot...
