my new GSM male has a singular white spot near his tail on the right side.
I watched him for 10 minutes, and a total of 15 seconds were spent with his right side facing me. A pic is comletely out of the question the way he is acting right now (the camera is fast enough, but I, alas, am not).
So are we putting money on ich due to packaging-transfer-storage-shipping-new home?
I did a freshwater dip for two minutes for each upon arrival, but there is no way to know if ich wasnt already in the tank, as the tank has had inhabitants that went in with no QT whatsoever (yeah, I know...chalk that up to 'if I knew then...'). Another thing I wish I'd thought about is that tanks can break when they get knocked around the house, truck, office, etc while they are waiting to be used as QT tanks, which can leave you with nothing on a Saturday after a fraq swap...
so here we go:
1) catch him, and pull him out by hand to examine the white spot?
2) pull him and QT him now?
3) will a marginal drop in salinity make any difference (1.026 to 1.020) and if so, what would that do to everyone else?
4) other thoughts?
feel free to chastise--it will help other noobs recognize the importance of my recent errors--but only if you follow it up with 'and now you should...'
