Drill tank or not?

My tank is 120 gallon, half inch glass(oceanic 48X24X24). Can this be drilled by me? My tank is empty right now so if its going to be done, now is the time to do it!

To test if it's tempered glass wear polarized sunglasses, set your LCD monitor to white, then light the glass from behind. If you see crazy colors and geometric shapes, then it's tempered.

I messed with HOB overflows for 2yrs with my previous reef setup, finally gave up and drilled my tank. Never looked back. When I was setting up my 200g FO, I went directly for 2x1.5inch overflow holes and 3x1inch return holes. Will never consider HOB overflows again.

After the third time my CPR overflow cut out in one year I decided to drill my tank. I took about a quarter of the water out to drill the tank. It has been a few months, and I am very happy with the result.

Even if you decide not to drill get rid of the that overflow and go with a U-tube style. I had one with the aqualifter pump and it always lost siphon. I just replaced mine with a U-tube style and it runs smooooooth. I am looking to upgrade after the holidays and I will definitely drill my new tank.

It's been drilled. Testing for leaks and going to hook up tonight. glass-holes.com make a nice kit and they have great customer service!

I used a diamond coated hole saw. It sliced through my tank like a hot knife through butter/like a feather trying to drill through a rock.

Did you get the overflow box kit from glass-holes? LMK what you think. I was looking at those also and have seen nothing but good reviews.
