That's surprising, deep blue from what I remember has more tempered glass than other manufacturers. 55s are usually tempered all the way around

Just checked the deep blue tempered sheet I requested from them a while back.

There are 3 deep blue 55s

ADB11055 - all tempered EXCEPT end panels
ADB11056 - all NOT tempered
ADB18055 - Reef ready - all tempered

Pet World in Ridgemont Plaza usually has one, give them a call. I think they go for $125.

Called them, they don't have any and said it would be a special order. Doing some surfing online, I found out that the Aqueon 55 gallon tanks that are not sold as a kit don't have tempered sides. I am going to see if I can find one and use the sunglass trick to verify.

Is there any way you could design your system to use the tank without drilling it? It would save you a lot of headache.

The only other thought I has was to plump the external pump intake up and over the edge of the tank and then back down into it. But that would require 3 elbow joints. I have assumed that would have an impact on the flow going back to the tank. I really didn't want to limit that anymore... but, I am open to others thoughts, ideas and opinions.

I think I found a 55 gallon I can drill. Aqueon makes them with only the bottom panel tempered. I called and the customer service rep told me that. But, she didn't sound totally confident. So I am going to pick one up today and try the "sunglasses and cell phone trick" I read about here:
