Drilling tank

So I just picked up my tank and need to get it drilled has anyone ever had their tanks drilled by a local glass shop before and if so how'd it turn out? Was the quality of the hole significantly better such that its worth the extra money as opposed to just doing it ourself or having someone else do it?

If you're interested in doing it I have a drill bit for a 1" bulkhead I could loan you. Got it from Amazon and there are various sizes available; also Prime eligible.

Just do it yourself. Super easy to do...... just take your time.

+1 do it yourself, it takes a couple min but its nothing a 15yr old cant do. Well im not sure a 15yr old has alot of patients, but you get my point

I was considering doing it on my own and I do have a drill press to make it even easier

No need for a drill press just do it with a cordless and go slow.

Isn't it a little more advantageous to use a drill press if you have it? I would imagine a drill press would ensure uniform pressure and contact between the glass and bit whereas a handheld has the potential to fluctuate slightly throughout the drilling

I'm not sure what brand tank you have but that glass could be tempered to make it stronger if it is it will blow up. I worked in a glass shop for years. It is easy to drill yourself you need to use water to cool it as you drill and go slow.

I have drilled many holes, its easy just keep the bit wet.

I have a 1" & 3/4" bits. Also haven't drilled before so we can tackle it together if you want, need to do my 40br and I've been putting it off long enough.

JLee I appreciate the offer. I didn't want to mess with the drilling process so I was just going to hve the glass shop do it but it turns out the tank I bought (25 gallon rimless) is all tempered and cannot be drilled. So now I'm kinda in a bind and need to find a new tank.

Does anyone know if the marineland 27 gallon cube tanks can be drilled on the sides? It's either a 27 gallon marineland cube or the 30 gallon deep blue. I'd rather not spend that much on the deep blue but it may be my only option. I do not want and overflow box so I need a drilled tank

Ok sound after talking to the shop where I got it the tank I purchased is only tempered on the bottom so my drilling plans will still work as planned. So on that note anyone local able to drill holes for a 1.5" bulkhead and two 3/4" bulkheads? I'd rather try to find someone able to do it before resorting to attempting it on my own. I have a frag of reverse space monsters and WoW palys or cash if you'd prefer.
