Drilling

I picked up my new tank (40-b) last night (along with the LR - thanks again Wendy), and am so excited to get it going! But, I want to get the tank drilled, and have no tools or experience. Is there anybody who has experience drilling that may be able to help me out?

I have the bits for 1, 1.5 and 2" bulk heads. I've drilled dozen of tanks and have only craked one(sorry Mike ) I offer no promises that I wont crack yours, but the odds are in our favor. It only takes a couple minutes to do. Let me know and we can work out a meeting time if need be.

I have bits for 1/2, 3/4, 1&1/2 and 2" If Rob doesn't come through. I used up all my 1" bits. I've drill atleast twenty holes myself. I have cracked a tank although it was a POS nanocube with really thin glass.

Thanks for the replies. Rob, I'll send you a PM to see what we can set up. Also, anybody have a skimmer & pump sitting around they are willing to part with? I'm looking for one, but dont want to spend a ton of $$.

I have a Red Sea Berlin HOB skimmer that has been sitting in the basement for 4yrs. It comes with a pump. $75

I have an aquarium systems skimmer good up to 150g. I just took it off of my tank because i got a sump with skimmer in it. I kept the air inlet ( very inexpensive) valve from it though. You can have it for 50$. pm me if interested. thanks: Kevin

Thanks for the replies on the skimmer and pump. Following some advice, I am going to hold off on that for the moment and wait til the tank is up and running before throwing more money into it. But there may be some PM's going out in the near future. : )

That's the way it goes over on the Rockford forum. Most of us are usually on the CMAS forum or on "other" sites. I always look at every new thread and post if I have anything of merit to add. It will just take time to get this forum a roll'in.

Well I too believe I'm ready to make a bunch of holes in my tank. The stand is at the sandblaster & gets picked up and painted tomorrow. So by the weekend I will have a place to put the tank. If anyone could recommend a good source for several bulkheads that would also be greatly apprechated.

What size bulkhaeds are you looking for? If you are going above 1", I would recommend the schedule 80 Hayward bulkheads as they are far stronger and seal very well.

I agree dont try to save a couple bux on the larger bulkheads. Its no fun when they leak.
BTW, If you need any help moving heavy tanks around or whatever let me know, Im about 15 minutes away.
