Drinking RO water

You'll probably get mixed views on this but from what I have read its safe to drink, just might not taste too good.

One thing that was a concern was the minerals ect... stripped from it by the filtration. However from what I have since read it won't effect your diet, you will still get the majority of these minerals from the foods you eat.

RO water is fine to drink. DI water tastes bad and if you drink a lot of it it would pull electrolytes out of your body.

Yeah the mineral thing is what I had read so to be on the safe side I stopped drinking it at the time.

I have mine tee'd off before the DI cartridge to go the the refrigerator for water and ice. No more stupidly expensive frig filters for me. I figure that alone paid for the rodi unit within the first year or so.

The only thing I don't like so far is not being abe to run the extra RO to save on waste water. BRS says it's not worth it if you have a filter like this (for drinking and fish water).

Is RO water safe to drink? I've read mixed things about drinking it.

Of course it is. It's basically just H2O. The problem is that it has no taste because there's no dissolved solids in it. Sort of like drinking distilled water. It's hypotonic compared to physiologic water (the water in your body is 0.9% sodium chloride), so it will make the inside of your mouth feel strange. But in modest amounts it won't hurt you.

I run dual RO membranes and have a check valve/pressure tank/drinking water faucet..Works fantastic..

Not sure why they consider it not worth it.. My waste:good ratio is much better with the dual membranes.
Any waste water goes to water the plants/garden..

RO is fine DI is not suggested. I used to drink RO/DI, my wife said it tasted funny. I did stop because of the cellular mineral thing, still use it for coffee.

Whole house water purification systems are RO systems. The city of Cape Coral FL uses RO water and the wast goes into a separate system and is used for outdoor watering. I used to live there and had two meters if I remember.

You can drink it, there's no safety issue. Any minerals not in your water, negligible to begin with, are found in food.

You won't lose electrolytes because your intestines reabsorb them as the water reaches them.

In short, your kidneys are amazing at regulation.

That's not quite right. RO water is stripped of almost everything so it's not the same as just water.

That's cool

The glacier vending machine I fill up at produces RO water. I tested it once and got a TDS of 7.

That's crapy RO water. More then fine for drinking. That's what makes me wonder about distilled water for drinking and people that use it for their fish tanks. I wonder if it's not as clean as they think. Also how does that pair up vs a good RO/DI filter? I know lab grade distilled water is cleaner.

With RO drinking water you have a tank so you get better water pressure. By running two membranes you lower the pressure of the water running through your system so it takes longer to fill the tank. Thus you end up with more waste water. My guess is a booster pump would over come this problem. That's what they claim any way.

RO is fine.
DI water is so osmotic that it's actually caustic.

However, if you leave the DI water sitting out for a few hours it is so osmotic that it will pull ions out of the surrounding air and will be safe to drink. But there's no way to know when it will be safe, so just better not to drink it.

Google "pure water caustic".

For all intents and purposes, if you remove all the dissolved solids and ions ("deionized") you're left with essentially hydrogen and oxygen. That's the whole point of the exercise.
