driver stuck

If you get the brake shoes out, the shaft/prop assembly will seperate from the magnet. Turn the unit until the brake shoes come out and then push a little harder and they will pop out. The hole goes all the way through the magnet. A small hole in the shaft with a tiny fin pumps the water through the hole to cool the motor and lubricate the parts.
 
Roger, your the man, you where right. I took the magnet assembly apart and the middle was plugged. No more chirping... YEA.
 
Probably the air inside couldn't get out so it sensed a run dry condition. Cool to know- one less thing to fix.

The 6100 worked for a while but now is chirpping again??? It does fine during the day (pulsing 50% - 100%) but at night, in night mode, it chirps all night. I have soaked it in vingar two more times and it is clean. I have tried running in night mode at 100%, nothing will stop the chirpping. Even the hole in the middle of the shaft. Is there anything else that might need to be cleaned or could it be the unit drive that is bad. Can I unhook the alarm? My wife is going to kill me if I don't get this 6100 to stop chirpping?

Help.
 
You can put tape over the alarm to muffle the noise. It should not be run though in this condition as it could cause more damage, send it in.
 
I don't want to ruin it (I love these streams, it just that beeping...). OK, now the lights are on and it stopped chirpping, but last night I unplugged the night eye and it still chirpped? I'm going to unplugged the night eye today and see what it does tonight first. If I sent it in, do I send in the driver or driver and drive unit?

The driver and completely pump- you basically only keep the transformer. I am suspecting though after giving it some thought that there may just be some air in it. Can you remove the drive unit under water and tip it up and reinstall it in water and then give me an update?
 
Roger, you're a die hard, it's Sunday. When my lights came on today it stopped chirping and hasn't all day. I unplugged the night eye so I will see what the 6100 does tonight. If it chirps I will pull it apart and reassemble underwater.

Yeah, I don't know exactly how old your pump is and that makes it tricky, we have had three drive unit design changes since the Stream came out and each has it's own quirks. The latest one has no calcium issues in most normal conditions but it chokes on trapped air sometimes.

I check in between weekend chores. It is a nice break from mowing the lawn, changing oil, etc.

When was my unit sent out and in what method, USPS or UPS, I haven't received the pump you sent out, and am getting kind of worry.

It went out Tuesday by UPS ground, I expect you will receive it today or tomorrow. California is usually 4days from Texas.

I think I got one of the first Streams. Here my update. My 6100 was quit all day yesterday; I unplugged my night eye during the day and still quite. At about 11pm my 5 MH lights start going off in series. As soon as the lights started going out it started chirping, night eye is still unplugged. It was a constant chirp all night. My tank temp stays a constant 78' with my Medusa controller. The only change I can think of that any part of the stream would know is the heat from the MHââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s during the day? Even at that my reef in closed floor to ceiling and very well ventilated, and it hasnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t chirped in the last year my tank has been configured in this way. The control modules are about 2 feet from the closest MH and multiply fans keep all the air moving. I just canââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t understand why it works fine all day without a peep and as soon as the light go out it is a constant chirp? I looked at my 7091 (I think that is the right model number? It is the one I got with my 7410 from you many years ago & I use the Tunze splitter box) pulse controller and it was still switching between 50% and 100% just like it had all day but the drive unit on the 6100 chirps at night, the 7410 is silent. I am beginning to think it is possessed. Should I bother pulling it out and assembling it under water for trapped air or just send it in. I am getting ready to be gone a week so I have to act now or wait till I get back?

Have you ever heard of such a thing?
 
So the photocell is disconnected? Have you tried swapping single controllers? I think it is a very simple problem. Likely the drive unit is damaged in a slight way. If that track isn't perfectly smooth and the pump slows down it will have trouble. It is moving slow and unable to overcome the drag so the alarm goes of because it is moving slower than it should. Make sure the parts are clean, remove any little burrs of plastic or imperfections you can see. An xacto knife is perfect for this. Then try assembly under water. Also, try speeding up the single controller. Old single controllers could slow the pump to below the threshold of the alarm and this is especially a problem when you combine an old controller with a new pump since the combination can go really too slow to run reliiably. You might also try cleaning the 7410 and the reason is that the splitter can allow a feedback from one pump to the other so what is wrong with one bothers the other one and it may help to use the other two sockets and try new cables which you likely have some spare.
 
Yes the photo cell is disconnected. I will pull the 6100 apart and make sure the drive unit is smooth like you suggest. I did clean both 6100 and 7410 last week. I will unhook the 6100 from the pulse controller and just let it run at 100% to see if that keeps it from chirping, just unplug the din cord yet? Can those cords go bad? I don't know where my others are? I was wonder if that older pulse controller my have something to do with it.

Yeah, the older controllers and drivers were entirely hand made and had greater variation. The new units are surface mount and have lower resistance so a controller tuned a bit low will make a bigger impact on a new pump. You will just need to unplug the pump from the controller. The cords don't go bad in ideal circumstances but any moisture, salt creep or water or a strong tug or heat could cause a problem.
 
I have no problem taking a look at it, I just fear I may not be able to replicate the problem.
 
I had the same fear, it is kind of like when your car acts up, you take it to the mechanic and it runs great... then dies on the way home.
