Drought and RO/DI

how is everyone handling this? are you just buying the water or are you making it yourself still ?

anyone try one of the Aquafx low waste RO/DI unit?

Have a 75 in the side yard with an old return pump to power the hose. With the ratio of waste to product, a batch of salt and RO reservoir top off fills the tank nicely.

Connected 2nd membrane and also getting close to 1:1 ratio. doing weekly 30g water changes and all waste water is captured in a storage bin in garage and pumped into washing machine for wash/rinse cycles.

I run my RO waste water through a second RO membrane then that waste water I use for our Turtle tank they get a 95% water change every week. Then I use there dirt water to fill the pond and water the garden and trees with the pond water.

I use the waste water for various things like water plants, lawn and to top off our swimming pool. I'm going to look into getting a second membrane as well

I do 50 gal every 3 weeks on the 300 so I have 3 -50 gallon drums in the garage,1 for good water changes and 2 for the bad water ,Once the 2 -50 gallon drums are full I transfer to an outside 4'x4'x4' storage tank which I use to top off the pond, pool and water plants.

Also has a 5 gallon bucket in the shower we put under the shower head to catch the cold water before it gets warm.

We do the same at the office too

Ha Ha. We do the same 5 gallon thing at home for the shower!

Like Chris said, we have a second RO membrane, and we use the waste water for the turtles as well as for plants and our trees. We also use a membrane pump to get a ratio of 1:1.

Mite be weird question.. guys that said they used changed out water to fill pond and swimming pool?? Isn't changed water saltwater??

No they are talking about the waste water run off from their RO/DI unit's.
I'm glad to see reefers conserving water this way.
I never thought about using it for doing laundry but topping off the pool or pond those are all awesome ideas  Great job you guy's and gal's
I only use mine for drinking water these day's but I will have to hook my waste water to the 60 gallon water barrel I still have and use the water for ? Don't know I live in an Apartment lol

Mighty noble. Do you wash your whites in cold water or do you use an aquarium heater to heat your waste water before it's loaded into the washer?

Luckily my PUD knows what I do for an income, my 400-800 gallons a week at a 3:1 ratio hasn't batted an eye.

Don't forget to water the vegetable garden!
