drunken clam

In Memoriam
in my tank ive had three T. crocea. two have attached to the rock and never moved. they seem to be healthy and growing.

one clam, however, seemes determined to fall off the rocks every couple of weeks (as if he were fall down drunk) regardless of where it was placed. it even fell over twice when placed on the sand. all clams were wild collected as far as i know and from different stores. the clam in question was aquired sevral months ago and aside from the falling has been doing well. i have sience given the clam to a friend who is going to see if things might change in his tank.

the other two clams seem fine and i have been unable to detact any parasites or predatory snails.

i guess im not realy looking for answers (but welcome them of course), but wondering if others have experianced this.

any comments are welcome.

It probally means it does not like where its located. Maybe the lighting, flow, position, or even something is irritating it. How is it doing in your friends tank currently?

i havnt heard from my friend yet. ill PM him today.

as for location, i tried every spot i could in my tank, even right next to the clams that were doing well. i also tried multiple positions in the same place to give it different surface textues to attach to. of course it is quite possible that the "right spot" for this particular clam doesn't exist in my tank

side note:
mbunaman,
are you still keeping cichlids?

Do you recall if it leaves behind byssal threads? If it was under three inches or so, and leaving behind threads, it may just be looking around for the right spot. If it responds and expands, I can't imagine much wrong. You sure it's a crocea?
