CaribSea Arag-Alive Special Grade Reef Sand, 20-Pound

Is this considered dry or live? I'm looking dry aragonite sand in a medium/special grade.

That is considered by many to be a "wet" sand. Whether it is "live" or not depends on whether you consider the bacteria in the sealed bag to be alive or not after sitting on a shelf for weeks/months.

Yes, it's alive. A lot of the people here do not recommend spending the extra money for "live" bagged sand because as stated by RocketEngineer it has probably sat on a shelf for months and does not carry the amount of bacteria that it had when packaged.

Oh, and real live sand, the expensive stuff that gets shipped the same way as fish and corals get shipped, that stuff has more then just bacteria in it. It has pods, worms, and in my case I got a couple sea urchins and star fish in it.

Isn't that "live" sand just sand that's packaged in this pretty much? (link below) If it's not good in the bag then it's not good in the container as well, which is kind of hard to believe IMO. I still think your better off just buying dry sand and letting nature take it's course though. Like mentioned above, if your going to buy "live" sand make sure it comes equipped with pods, worms, brittle stars etc. GL.

Ok. So then my next question is can someone point me to the equivalent in a dry sand?

I tried searching dry aragonite sand and that came up.

Petsmart usually has it. I think $29 for a #40 bag

Don't forget to rinse the crap out of it!!!
