DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

This is the fun hobby.
So let's enjoy it.

Here is my new stuff. Quarantine box. Is this the proper name?
If not, what should I call it?
I will keep treated fish in here before introducing into main tank.

I do not disagree. Social acclimitization is very important IMO, and is way too often overlooked. Here is what I use (for single fish, obviously):

Like I said, I hope I am wrong, and everything works out, but my gut impression doesnt agree. JMHO.

That's I nice QT sir
Can it fit inside the display tank for a couple of days?
Maybe in the back of the tank

No, it can't fit in my display tank.
But I am thinking about doing one to sit in my display tank.
Good idea. Thank you.

Thank you guys.
I really appreciate every comments.
It is a good thing to share experience, knowledge etc.

But please don't act like a dispute instead of debate.
It makes me sick and want to stop updating this thread.
That's it!

My appoligies. I have followed this thread from the beginning. This tank is simply amazing.

hi ching i like the new box for the Quarantinein the sump, but you must get one made to fit in the display for at least 1-2 weeks , when you introduce new fish this is why, it gives the new fish time to adjust without being attacked, and allows the older established fish to see and interact with the new ones .

I use it all the time when i introduce new fish , sometimes when i see continued aggression at the box towards the new fish after a week in the tank, then i will make a plan to catch/trap the aggressive fish and release the new ones and put the aggressive fish in the box, while the new fish are able to make their territory in the display. this has often helped me condition fish behaviour but there are times it wont help, as we dont have the size of the ocean to play with in our aquarium.Social acclimitization boxes are very important without them many hobbyists fail to be successfully when adding new fish.

You have great acrylic work being done im sure they could design a slim box to fit in somewhere in your display but make sure it gets enough flow of water into the box as well.

That QT tank is very interesting and nicely put together. Tell me, is acrylic cheap in Thailand? In Canada its crazy expensive and is way more expensive than glass

For something like these Achilles a small box like that would do them more harm than good. They are swimmers and cannot be confined like that for any length of time. The only way one could divide fish like this in a display would be too section off part of the tank using something like egg crate. But I still believe that for these Achilles a couple of weeks together in the tank will settle out the aggression. For smaller Pygmy angels and such the box would make more sense (but I would get a bigger one than the one pictured a couple pages back in this thread.

The new quarantine looks very professional and well built!

That video of the fish eating is awesome, and your choice of music is hilarious! Thanks for giving me a smile this morning

melontaenia, i think with Ching's aquascape eggcrate wouldnt be that easy to do, but you are 100% right it would be the best option to divide the aquarium for abit , but if that is not possible a box of the same volume as the Q tank that the achilles are in at the moment would probably work. Achilles tangs are fish that live in the high surge zone they need alot of oxygen in their water and strong current to be happy

So yes Ching if you can divide a portion of the aquarium for a week then that would definitely be the best option , i really hope this works and it is exciting , will look absolutely stunning , although right now your aquarium is already one of the best in the world ;)

Oh I totally agree that egg crate is out of the question. But my point is that in situations like this a box would be impractical for this type of specific fish. Like many others on this forum with progressive thinking tanks, this Achilles is another step in understanding the grouping behaviors of different fish.

Ten years ago people would have been very wary of two angels in one tank...and now look how many have changed that thinking.

Chingchai,
We contacted epo to ask about the epoxy and there are no distributors in North America but they will send me some but I have no idea how much to get. Do you remember how much you used for your tank?

Also very nice QT Tank. What is the long curly thing on the side if I may ask. I've never seen one so I have no idea what its for. Sorry if its a silly question.

Peter
