DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

1. I remember ChingChai that you controlled your skimmer bubbles and system water with your filter bags of 200 microns? Do you recycle them? If so how often do you clean them and with what? How long before you replace them with new bags? Are you happy with your water clarity?

2. How fast do you move the water over your Miracle Mud?. I realize that may be difficult to answer precisely but is it slow medium or fast?

3. Other than peppermint shrimp what else if anything do you do to control the growth of aptasia in your display tank?

That's it for the moment ChingChai, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions.

Peter & Shawn.

Peter & Shawn. Sorry for late reply.
1. I have two sets of filter bags. I replace them every Wednesday and Sunday. The way I clean them is just rinsing with tap water. Yes, I am happy with my water clarity.
2. I use Eheim 1262 to pump water from sump to refugium. It is medium flow.
3. I only have Peppermint Shrimp to control Aiptasia.

Hi ChingChai,
You have beautiful fish!
I have a question for you?
My new tank is acrylic and during cleaning operations known many micro scratches
How do you clean the tank ?........... do you have problems with micro scratches?

Hi Nando,

Thanks for your kind words.
Your tank is my inspiration as well.
I use Tunze magnetic cleaner as Frank posted.
And I also use Algae scrub pad.

Frank. Thank you for your help.

Awe inspiring video my friend! A person could write a book on rare fish and would only have to stop by your tank to shoot the pics. I don't believe there is another tank on the planet that houses such an impressive collection of fish. Not to mention the corals, WOW. It is a true balance of awesomeness. The question is, how many trips to Japan were passed off as "business related" when you really just wanted to go score some awesome fish and coral :D

Jim. Thanks so much.
Your collection of fishes is second to none.
I still have to search for more rare fishes. Hope I will be lucky to get them.

Japan trip:
Haha, you really know me.

Chingchai, your reefaquarium and fish are looking amazing well done!

I have some questions for you

1. I know you use a chiller , how reliable has it been? how often does it need service?
Can you please post details of it again . i know you have before but your thread is huge to sift through ;) ;Also the thermostat is it made of salt water resistant material i know it is located in the titanium chamber right? and the compressor is outside the house.

2. Temperature always is a huge concern for me to keep at the right levels- i have always been worried of chiller failure (heaters often fail and kill many fish) and cooling too much or breaking down , when no one is around to fix it- do you have any failsafe if it malfunctions? I know your room is Airconditioned too , does this also help stabilise your temperature if chiller failed?

3. What temperature do you keep the tank at? and how much does it vary over 24 hours? I know the Japanese pygmy angel prefers cooler temperature of around 23-25 celsius.
Many thanks Ching chai and i eagerly anticipate seeing more of your new fish that you are going to get!!

Have a wonderful New year ! full of reefing success!

Hi Ching Cai

Your Tank Now is Complete and looking full and colorful, i have 2 question for you :

1. why you don't submitte to tank of the month, and do you have next project after this tank is full ?

2. Do you ever try camel shrimp to remove nudibranch(montipora pest), red bug, flatworm and other pest, i read in www.korallenzucht.de. It's safe or not, what do you think ?

Thanks,

Have a wonderful new year and congratulation for your successfull new tank .

Anton:bounce1:

Anton,
camelback shrimp is not reef safe but if your talking about peppermint shrimp since it's very similar it's only good for aptasia.

Also mr. Ching Chai is so humble he doesn't want to have tank of the month honors again he want someone else like Taylorarm to get it.
I think he should be in the greatest tank of all time... Many people will agree on me on this one Since he is a Master reefer IMO....

Shawn. Thank you so much.

1. In one year, my chiller has some problem two times. But their maintenance team can fix it within one day.
The thermostat is salt water-proof. It is located in Titanium coil and compressor is outside the house.
Here is the specification:
Aircooled water chiller
- Scroll compresor "COPELAND"ZR48K3-PFJ(40,800 Btu/hr) 1 pcs
- Air cooled condenser+Axial fan 60000 Btu/hr 1 pcs
- Titanium Evaporator 5 HP
2. I do have sensor to control my tank's temperature. Air conditioner is very helpful. When my chillier is down, I just have to turn off my MH. And the temperature of my tank is quite stable.
3. I keep my tank at 24 celsius. The differentiate is 1 celsius.

All the best to you and your family as well.

Hi Anton,

1. Of course, I always have next project but don't think I can't afford it at the moment. TOTM, there are still plenty of beautiful tanks in this world.
2. I never try Camel Shrimp. But I don't think it is reef safe.

Happy New year to you and your family.
