DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

Ching sorry to hear about the losses. I know it is very frustrating when we loose something, whether it be a coral or fish. I set up a QT and used water from the main display in the QT. This way, if I had any diseases, it would expose the new fish to the disease. Whenever I did water changes, I topped the QT off with the main display water. This was recommended by Eric Borneman.

i say look for the silver lining,
my biggest fear is when its all done, no more build, live rock is covered then what? buying and tinkering is what makes this a hobby right? now you have an excuse shop some more, to buy new fish,

its all what we make of it right?

Chingchai,
This is a milestone I have been expecting in one form or another from the beginning of this incredible journey. I am sorry for the loss of the fish, I know that some of them were very dear to you.

Your build process is so very different from the majority of examples on this thread in the phenomenal opening vision and the subsequent planning of the display tank and supporting systems. The focus of this tank has always been the coral structure(art) and the variety of coral species in a deep pool. The fish have been the accent to the coral not the reverse.

Most of the members of this forum have never seen a coral tank like this in the flesh and accomplished in less than six months! You have had such a phenomenal run to this point that sooner or later opportunities to learn and grow from your experience would come.

Apart from the obvious pleasure of caring for these animals there are some very important contributions that are necessary to complete the ecosystem that you have created. I believe you need a plan that recognizes what you have built with the coral environment and in fact complements that result with the same rigour that you have applied to everything else.

What are the absolute minimum that is required from livestock to meet the basic needs of the tank as it is today? If you focus with the same energy you have applied to your accomplishment to date then we will all learn something valuable from your work. It also is an opportunity for input from the larger community who fully appreciates what you have accomplished and wants you to succeed for yourself and the hobby itself.

We are behind you and support your continuing devotion to this journey!!!!!

Thank you again for sharing this with us.

Peter

Sorry about your lose, you be alright through. What will you do next when get some some fish again. Tank is still outstanding and beautiful.

The loss sucks but do have to tell you that you are very lucky to have such nice corals. I think there's many corals you have that alot of us have never seen.

Hey ChingChai I too am battling oodinium. So far I have lost a bluejaw trigger, clown trigger, dwarf lion, blue tang, 3 squamipinnis anthias, flame hawk, and I hope my Desjardini tang pulls through. I had to "put down" my bluejaw trigger by cutting his spine with a scalpel because he was suffering too much... I was sad for the entire day about that. For some reason all of my $2 green chromis are doing fine.

Ching,

I have been following your build from day 1. Fantastic tank. You have raised the bar.

Have been meaning to ask you. What happened to your old tank?

Sorry to hear about your fish loss. It is reefers worst nightmare.

What will you do now?
I have read many opinions about where to go from this but this seems to be the most supported direction..

Reinfection will occur no matter how effectively the fish have been treated if the organisms are not eradicated from the main aquarium. Because they require a fish host to survive, this can be accomplished by keeping the tank devoid of any fish for at least four weeks. For fish-only aquariums hyposalinity can be applied during this period of time, and the tank temperature elevated to 85 to 90 degrees to speed up the life cycle of the organisms, which will help to eliminate all cysts and dinospores in three weeks.

Several days prior to returning the treated fish to the main aquarium all filter equipment should be cleaned, filtering materials changed, and a particle water change performed.

Pray things recover for you soon.

Are u sure you're dealing with oodinium?
Are you taking out the fish from the main tank?
Good luck in saving the fish!
