Mine likes a low flow on it. It could also just be getting used to the new enviroment as well this is JMO so not to sure what else it might be is lighting as well what type of light do you have and what were they under when you bought them.

does food make him more willing to open up?

If so you might want to throw him in a bowl of tank water... add some food to the water and try to keep it suspended without spooking him.

If it seems like it's working then add more food, let him feast, then put him back in. If need be, repeat again.

Luckily, my duncans opened up right away, but I have heard this trick being used to help get sun corals to feed... might be worth a shot.

Yeah, 8 days is a long time to be closed. Something must be ****ing it off.
Your pH is a little low and I am guessing your alk may be off. I would say low to moderate placement on both light and flow.
I would not try to feed it until it has full polyp extention.
First thing I would do is try a 5g water change and see if that helps.

I am having the same problem with my dendro. I bought it a few days ago and it is really closed. The only thing I can think of that's wrong maybe that a little hermit crab likes to crawl on it once in a while and I need a powerhead. Any suggestions? It was an expensive coral and I need all the help I can get.

I have a strong light ati sun power 6x24 2 clowns and an anemone and fire fish. I have been keeping up on my water exchanges.

Really odd. I posted a thread last week as well on this. Had it since August its grown from 15 heads to almost 40. Fed it last Sunday afternoon as of today has not opened since. All parameters ok no other corals out of wack including a large elegance. Maybe its that time of the year. Still hoping mine comes back.

did you check if its opening during the night? My Duncan was barely opening when I put him on my sandbed but was open during the night. Just after I moved it into the shadow (still on sandbed) it would open during the day as well.
