Dumb Naoko's Fairy Wrasse!

Got one of these a week ago.
Every single day I've had to pull him out of my overflow.
Twice yesterday! I have yet to actually seem him in the tank other than the split second between releasing him back into the water and him going behind the rock, until the next time I find him in the overflow.
D2mini not happy! :mad2:

Is there anything in the tank showing interest in him, sometimes that gets fairy wrasses a little jumpy, but sometimes its getting used to lights going on or off that startle them, or even activity outside of the tank, especially during the first few weeks as it is getting used to its surroundings. But it is a fairy wrasse and sometimes just run of the mill excitement gets them to jump too.

many of my Fairy wrasses and some others at one time or another ended up in the over flow box....I use a mesh screeening to cover the box and the across teeth now..solved the problem, but it must be cleaned often so it doesn't obstruct the overflow and cause a flood.......

I don't think he's jumping.
I have a coast-to-coast overflow with no teeth and bean animal plumbing. So lots of flow.
There is an egg crate cover over it but there is space between the cover and the overflow so I think he must just be going to the surface at some point and then getting pulled over.
I haven't seen anybody bothering him because as I said in my initial post, i literally haven't seen him in the tank! He goes from my hand to behind the rocks. Next time I see him he is in the overflow.

So I also haven't seen him eat a single thing in a week now, either. Because when i feed the tank in the evening he is either in the overflow or I just got him out and he is hiding in the rocks. Hopefully he is eating pods or algae or something.

They are jumpers though. I had one in QT that kept trying to leave - I could hear it hitting the screen. Them I got distracted one day while cleaning the tank, forgot to replace the top and ...... well, we all know how THAT ends:(

Maybe he's just simply going in there to hide or sleep.

Why don't you block off the entry with some window screening for a few days and maybe he'll opt for a new hiding place.

Be careful when covering an overflow with mesh. If it is not very tight, a fish will land on top and may not be able to get itself off, which won't end well obviously. Instead I use black acrylic cut to size.

My point was to cover the slot with screening not the whole top of his Bean overflow.

I do agree that a well designed acrylic cover that is part of a screened top would work best.

I thought of this way too much as I've also considered a piece of slanted or funnel type acrylic top so they have no way of getting stuck up there.

Thanks for the ideas but after 8 days in a row of pulling him out of there I have decided to re-home him. Sometimes it just doesn't work out and I'd rather see him go to a different tank than to have something bad happen to him. :(
