Dumb question: Do LED units look different parallel vs perpendicular?

I have my hydra 52s mounted parallel to the front of the tank, I would assume if I swapped them to perpendicular I would have more light from left to right as opposed to front to back. Does this change the look at all?

I was at a reef store in Orlando and the guy mentioned if you have a black back wall to your tank it has a better look to go perpendicular vs parallel because there is less light reflecting off the back giving darker background and more contrast to your corals.

Not sure if it's worth the trouble to test this out

I've read if you have a deeper dimension tank then its a good idea to turn the lights.
