Duncan babies

I bought a Live Aquaria aquacultured Duncan polyp 3 weeks ago. It came in looking very healthy and happy. It opens up huge and has great color. I found 2 new babies already sprouting :bounce1:. WOW, that was fast. There wasn't even a nub on the stalk when I received it. It must be happy...sorry no pics at the moment but I will try to get some pictrures this weekend, it is in a terible spot for pictures though.

duncans grow so fast! thats why i sell frags like every other week! target feed that sucker and you will have even more growth.

Fast is right, These two babies are full polyps already, albeit tiny compared to the mama polyp which is easily 2" across. These from LA are so nice and big. I love it, it reminds me of a mini elegance coral :D. I do feed it every 2-3 days and it seems to eat well. That is how I noticed the babies, the tenticles curled in to grab the food and lo and behold, two nice little polyps hidden . I was able to spot feed them some small pieces but I don't know if they took the food or not.
Chelskisw6, How do you frag? Dremmel?? bone shears and cut? More curious for way down the road when it gets to be 10-15 heads. At this rate it might not be to far off.

From what one local reefer told me he initially was told they are nonphotosynthetic so he feed every other day. He has subsequently cut back significantly on the feeding and its still thriving so I would say Photosynthetic.
I haven't received mine yet but just relating what I have heard.

How fast do they eat? I have fairy wrasses and a couple stray peppermint shrimp and they like to snatch food from some of my corals. I have taken to feeding on the weekends at 2 am to avoid most of the problems, am I going to have to do this with the Duncan or is it a pretty quick eater?

Takes food as quickly as a sun coral, i dont feed mine and its growing well. It does catch stray food that i add to the tank though.

PITW, you are right, I will try and post some pics later ... I wish someone would answer my question about how long it takes for babies to become adults, though.

ok this is mine.

They are photosynthetic, but rely heavily on feedings for good growth.
I got one about a month ago; single polyp that had a little nub next to it, maybe 2 or 3mm across. In that time, the little nub is almost a cm across, and there are 3 new buds that I discovered last night :D The grow quick; cant wait to see it get to the size yours is, snowsurfer (and bigger..lol)

For those not familiar with Duncanopsammia, heres a really short synopsis:

I will definately get a picture up this weekend. There are different size duncans, I have seen some that are smaller heads than the one I have. Mine has fairly long tenticles as well, all flowing about an inch all the way around the polyp which is about 2" across, big guy with a beautiful neon green color. I was really happy when I opened the package and saw this coral...it was more than I expected.

I just got in trouble with The Lady of the House for buying mine, and its not even here yet. :) Thats what I get for having a girl smart enough to check the bank statement online.

Still worth it though.
