Duncan being strange

Yes, a picture when you feel it looks different from what you posted could be helpful.

If it is a Duncan, it is the strangest looking Duncan I've seen. From the picture you posted I get more of a bleached Blastomussa vibe but I am not sure. I see why trumpet or candy cane could be suggested. I have 3 different blastos and 2 different candy canes and have kept Duncans. Duncans look like chrisfont23's and Mark9's pictures.

Tripod1404, I have never seen clear tentacles on a Duncan. The only tentacles I've seen on them are like the ones in chrisfont23's and Mark9's pics. Chalices and Favias typically extend clear tentacles at night, often considerably long. Might you have a picture of your Duncan with clear tentacles?

I had to get a new phone so sadly I don't have any pictures when I was sure it was a Duncan.
It use to have tentacles
It's the strangest coral I have. I can't understand what's going on.

Ohh sorry, by clear tentacles I meant clearly visible tentacles not color :)

To me that is very obviously a Duncan but I haven't written a book on coral ID so I could be wrong lol. Anyways what light do you have on the tank? Are your other coral being weird (turning white etc?) what is your alk? When was the last time you moved the Duncan to a new location and where is it now?

Thank you for clarifying Tripod1404. I apologize for misunderstanding your statement.

farfromsea, I agree that the coral in Preble's most recently posted pic looks like a Duncan.

So it appears Preble's coral is a Duncan, but with completely retracted tentacles now.

To me that suggests it is being nipped or picked on by something. I reread the thread and didn't see any mention of tank inhabitants. What fish and inverts do you have Preble?

Even if we can't identify a culprit from your statement of inhabitants, you could always try placing an inverted strawberry basket (or any tank safe item which allows flow but blocks critters) over the coral to see if in a day or two it doesn't extend some tentacles after not being picked on because the offending critter can't get to it. While that won't identify the nipper, it will let you know the cause of the retraction.

For kicks, I took a night picture, pretty much the same extension as during the day.
You say your water is good, but we haven't seen any numbers.
What are you using for lights?

He was out all day today, ugly but actually out during the day. Idk what's going on but it looks like he is trying to bounce back.

Try feeding it a little brine shrimp or mysis when it is open. Sometimes that would coax mine back to life after falling down in my tank. Calcium might be a little low but I will let someone else comment on that since I'm not one to ask

Calcium is way too low, no kh number.
If your lfs said the water is ok, they are wrong.
How often do you do water changes?
Only having one lps, regular water changes should keep your numbers in line, unless you are using the wrong salt.
Reef crystals would work.

I do 10% about every 8 days. I use Red Sea coral pro.
I also have a TON of Corolinr algae growing, could that be my calcium user?
Should I supplement it?

Coraline algae definitely can be the issue.
I'd buy a couple bottles of supplement (ca/kh) and manually dose.
You'll need a test kit though to get to proper levels.
The Red Sea Pro kit works well.

Update..... still alive still ugly as sin.
Only reason he is still in the tank is the pallys attached to him are doing great and have almost double in size.

I for one know that my duncan does not like being in the area that my clown hangs out in for some reason. Also, could the paly's be bothering him? They're really close and I know that Duncans can send out sweepers. Not really sure though. Hope things are going better. Maybe getting calc/alk up will help too. I know that mine is actually fairly sensitive to nitrates.
