Duncan question

I recently picked up a Duncan coral, opened up nicely and are a mysis shrimp for me today, how often should he be fed and is there such a thing as over feeding him?

I have a couple of them...most corals only need to be fed every other day. I make my own food which has something for everything in my tank and I usually feed 3x a day. I have had no negative effects with feeding my coral multiple times a day :)

I feed mine once or twice a week. I do not believe Duncans need target feedings, but they grow a lot faster when you feed them in my experience.

Feeding isn't necessary but the corals like it and will grow faster. I'd feed no more than once a day. If you overfeed you could have problems with nitrates and phosphates

Thanks for the info, it's a lower light tank so I'll be supplementing with feeding, I probably would anyway as I like to watch them eat. Just wanted to make sure if he are too much it wouldn't hurt him.

I've had mine for over a year and never fed it anything.Only started off as 2 heads but got to be more than 20 now and it's grown quite big.I'm not saying feeding it is wrong but I've found it not necessary.Keep the light low and you'll get better colour with bigger heads as they are a deeper water coral.

akitareefer is right. Make sure you dont over feed and if you frag them make sure to keep the stalk they will multiply without any heads

how much mysis did you give it? i give a slow quirt into each head. id estimate 1/10th of a cube per large head and much less for the smaller heads. i have bene doing this once a week for the last 5 months and have almost tripled the number of heads.

i have read that you CAN overfeed. the digestive system cant keep up and the partially digested food lingers inside of the coral slowly rotting. once a week has worked out well for me.

I don't feed mine at all and it's quite large. Started with a couple heads and now have 50 or 60. It probably does grow faster with feeding, but I want more room for other corals :)

I'll stick with once a week feedings as I do like to watch him eat and I don't mind him growing faster. That's for the input on it, he would be my first lps and I don't want to screw it up.
