Durso drain pipe gurgling

Hello all,

My drain pipe has been gurgling, spewing bubbles at the exit end in the sump at higher flow.

The only way to avoid it is to turn down my dc pump the next notch down, but the flow came down to a small trickle (not sure why there is such a big difference between the two power notches).

Is there a way to reduce the gurgle, should I add another vent hole at the top cap? Currently it only has a small one.

Thanks.

I used a "T" fitting on my drain line placed so that the leg of the T is just above the water level in the sump. This allows the air to escape before the line is submerged.

Also - just so you know, a 1" durso drain is maxed out at 350gph and will be much quieter at ~300gph.

hth!

As you are seeing, standpipes are limited. They work well, but they are only quiet at really low flows.

That's why most of us use some kind of siphon drain system, like a Bean or Herbie.

The Tee fitting is an interesting tip, Bill.

Unfortunately, I'm not a very hands on person so prefer not to risk converting to an entirely different drain system.

Bill, the T fitting you mentioned, is that some kind of "reverse durso"?

So far, from research, these seem to be possible solutions:

1. Reverse durso
2. Cutting the drain outlet close to the sump water surface (right now its pretty far below in the water)
3. T fitting by bill (if its different from reverse durso)

Does drilling more holes at the top end of the durso entry point do anything? How about inserting a air tubing into the pipe?

Also, I still cant quite understand why there is such a big flow difference between the 3rd and 4th setting (total 6) on the DC pump. Is it a pump issue or 4th is the threshold for the flow to get traction?
