Durso standpipe

Ok guys I need help I build a 150 gallon tall aquarium I have 2 1" durso standpipe I drilled a hole at the top it drains well but in the sump it makes a laud gurgling sound and like big air bubbles going through the pipes.

Reverse Durso in the sump. where the drain enters the sump, elbow to a Tee, pipe going up from the Tee with a cap on, drill hole in the cap. Downward end of the Tee into the sump. You can add airline to the hole in the cap and route that where if you get too much water the line drains into the sump.

Will release majority of the air upwards and not force it down into the water.

1" dursos are nothing better than useless. Increase the size of the pipe, and reduce the flow rate. That is the only CURE for the problems associated with durso and every other air assisted stand pipe.

Even the inventor of the durso, Richard Durso--who did not even understand the physics of operation of his invention, stated that 1" dursos and next to useless on his website.

What folks consider "fixes" (all the gimmicks and variations) do not fix the issues, rather bring the issues to a point where they become tolerable--almost. However, they are never silent, and never quite stable. Most, who have never run siphon systems, don't understand what is meant by silent and stable.

A siphon system, is the only cure to problems with dursos. Everything else, can reduce the issues impact, but cannot eliminate the issues--save increasing the pipe size and slowing the flow rate--so the stand pipe operates with the physics, not fighting against them.

Can the beananimal overflow be used in an internal overflow system with only 2 1" drains.

No it cannot be. The "beananimal" drain system requires three drains.

But it could be a "herbie".

If you only have 2 drains, the easiest option is to run a Herbie with an external return. Not as good as a bean, but better than a durso

No, that's a Suicide-Bean. A bean with no dry back up. Not a good idea.

A Herbie drain is a siphon and a dry back up, no duroso. They tend to need regular adjusting to keep the siphon just right so it's not sucking air or sending a trickle down the back up (leaving it with a trickle going down the back up is a Suicide-Herbie, also not a good idea).

As long as we are being technical, I would propose "Mariticide Drain System" , unless you do the right thing and kill yourself before your wife does.

A real "herbie" would be nice. Just plan to have to adjust the valve frequently to keep it running right.

Otherwise live with the noise, bubbles and slooow flow you can expect from a 1" duroso. (with 1" bulkheads you can upsize all the rest to 1.25" and they work slightly better).

I had the same problem on my 90 gallon. As soon as I got it, I did a 1" durso..very little help. Then I actually read the directions (silly, i know..lol) and did it again 1 1/4" with 1" at the bottom and it works great! I don't know why, but thats what the guy says and it works!

The herbie with a trickle going down the back up is a "suicide-herbie", suicide because it's not nearly as close to failsafe as a real herbie. Lots of people get lulled into the suicide-herbie idea out of laziness because they don't keep tuning their real herbie, and they usually get away with it.

Problem is, with a suicide herbie the perfect sized snail can be all it takes to start a flood, with a real herbie the you would need a perfect sized snail blocking the back up AND at the same time something else obstructing the siphon.
