Dwarf Angel Reef Compatability

What's everyone's experience with Dwarf Angels and reef compatability. I have a 120g reef with a couple clams, a couple SPS's (digitata, birds nest) several SPS's (brains, frogspawn, anchor, torch, etc) and a bunch of softies (kenya trees, zoas, shrooms, toadstools). I'm thinking about a flame or coral beauty but have read mixed stories on reef compatability. Some sites say a rare specimen will go after a clam or softie while other sites seem to hint it's more likely than not that they'll go after corals. What's "real life" experience?

I've had a flame in My tank for a few weeks now and no problems with it nipping my corals. Have hammer, torch, gonopora, zoos and shrooms. It's eaten little pieces of algea off some corals and at first look I thought it was picking at the corals, but. closer look showed it wasn't. IMO the flame is a great addition, besides the nice color it is also a very active fish.

if you keep the angle (flame, coral beauty, not sure on others) feed well it will rarly nip at your sps, all depends on your fish tho some will just go rampid on them. but i havnt seen them go after LPS or softies...

We've had many flames, coral beautys, lemon peels returned to our store because they nipped at sps, ate zoas, nipped at lps. More often than not they are ok with everything other than sps. we do have some customers who report no problems as well. Hows that for help:) If you just have too try one... best advice...keep them fed and have a fish trap handy just in case!

I have a Flame angel in my tank (dwarf), and I've never had an issue with him and any of my corals. I personaly l recommend them because of their color, and I have always considered them quite hardy.

I have had several dwarfs over the yrs ... no significant coral problems. But I do know that others have experienced issues so its a crap shoot.

I agree Kevin, "Yoz pays your money and yoz takes yoze chances".

Most times they appear to be fine but if they run amuck Watch Out; they are not really all that angelic.

What about one of the Genicanthus angels such as Bellus or Zebra? From the reading I have been doing the they seem to be much more reef compatible than most of the Centropyge angels.

Or perhaps skip getting an angel and get a Mimic Eibli Tang. The look of a Eibli Angel without the potential coral or clam problems. Just a thought....:)

All dwarf angels are hit or miss. You may get one that doesn't bother coral, and another guy may buy the same angel and it'll trash his corals. 50/50. Mimic tangs are a good choice.

annother concern with dwarf angles is there compatibility with each other---it really is a crap shoot.
I tried to add a flame angel to my tank that had a coral beauty--it was killed overnight by the cb--ouch--pocketbook and my idea of owning a few angles dashed.
