Dwarf Feather Duster

Few questions, could not find online

Is the worm the entire length of the tube?
I tried to bury it a few times in the sand but this one is odd curly shape,
hope I did not damage it.

How often to they come out of hiding?

Any reasons not to have these?

I am using Marine Snow, can it still filter/eat when it hiding?

Are you sure you aren't looking at a vermetid snail? They have the coiled tube at the base. Most small feather dusters I'm aware of just attach the foot ot the tube to something, there is no coil.

The small feather dusters are harmless filter feeders. The vermetid snail in small numbers are not a big issue, but they can become invasive and they can irritate corals.

It is a drawf feather duster, tube is about 6"
curled in the middle

I was just wondering how long the worm is
Inside of the tube

The crown pops out ever so often

Does not stay out all the time

here is a pic, it's looks like long poop in the tank, not very pretty, lol

OK, that's not what I think of as a dwarf feather duster. To me a dwarf is one that is only an inch long, much skinnier and the 'duster' is only 1/2" to 1" in diameter.

Tube is longer than the worm ..... otherwise it wouldn't be able to easily retract the crown. Hard to bury without crushing the tube. I've had success slipping a length of thin walled silicone tube over the curled part and then burying it by excavating a depression and then heaping sand back over the reinforced tube. If you feed your fish well, the worm will get enough to eat.

I usually try to place them in my rockwork where the tube will not get crushed. They eventually attach to the rock, and occasionally will shed their crown to regrow a new one.

I've never put one in the sandbed for fear of crushing the tube. A cocoa worm on the the other hand, has a hard calcium tube and can be put anywhere.

Thanks for all replies. I bought online, it stated Dwarf but that is what they sent me, no clue if really dwarf or not.
