my wife picked me up a dwarf lion and its been 3 days and he still hasn't ate any ideas what will help make him eat, Ive tried rods and mysis do i need something alive

According to Live Aquaria - "Dwarf Lionfish diet consists of meaty foods such as live shrimp (including ornamental shrimp), live fish, and sometimes, crustacean flesh."

Live Aquaria also recommend that when you first introduce a dwarf lionfish that you should feed it live saltwater feeder shrimp.

Goldfish are a terrible food source...even for freshwater fish.

What size and species lion? I used to have a 4" P. radiata and it immediately went for a 1/2" piece of shrimp using a thin wooden stick as a feeder rod.

D. zebra's usually accept food the same way. Do a search and you will see videos of people feeding lion fish in this manner. They usually go for it once they settle in. Small silversides pieces and shrimps larger than mysis work well and are available at most lfs's. I have never seen a lionfish not eat when hungry and offered an appropriate food.

picked up some small minnows for the dwarf lion today but he didnt want anything to do with them,i tried to hold one by him but he just wanted to go hide would silver side be any different or do i just need to wait longer its been 4 days since i got him

How big is he? What species is he? Does your LFS have live feeder shrimps?

Honestly, get some ghost shrimp, not minnows and not goldfish. Freshwater inverts are, for some reason, not as bad to feed to marine animals as freshwater fish flesh is.

Lions can also go for a week or so without eating, though that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to tempt him with something each day. Try the ghost shrimp, speared on the end of some monofilament fishing line.

hes a fuzzy dwarf lion and hes about 2 1/2 inches long i think i will throw a couple peppermint shrimp in and see what he does

Lol,doNt waste money with the pepermints.
He is either full from eating at LFS or he is still acclimating.
Go to petco/pets Mart and they should have ghost shrimp for like $0.30 each.get like 5 and toss a few in there and save a few for another day.

I had a lion for almost 5 years and he only ate rosy reds. He was healthy as could be, so my suggestion is try rosy reds.
