Dwayne was rushed to the Er this morning with poison like symptems in one of his hands. He has 6 puncher wounds with streking up his arm.

Lets hope for a quick recovery for Him.

He dosnt know but the infectious disease poeple thinks its related to fish tanks but I know there giving him antibiotics for the strane of really bad staff.

That's what happens when you let a Vampire bite you three times. Everybody knows once is enough. :D

Get well soon, Dwayne!

This is Dwayne's wife, he wanted me to put something on here to see if anyone has seen anything like this and that might help doctors identify it. I ran home for a bit and then back to hospital.

Here's what we know: after working all weekend at the store, Monday morning he noticed 5 puncture wounds on the top of his hand. As the day progressed they became large open blisters. Very painful, burning pain, swelling, sore joints, numbness in fingers, red streaks up arm. Went to infectious disease specialist and given antibiotics--had no idea what it was. Continued to get worse, ordered to ER on Wed. Still no one had an answer. Given multiple antibiotics by IV (including the one for MRSA) and sent him home "to wait". Thursday nothing new. Friday morning took a turn for the worse with chills, severe headache and chest pains and numbness of all 4 limbs. Again, using antibiotics by IV. They had stabilized him, but still no answers. All the infection and blood cultures initially came back negative, but they are continuing to watch them "grow". More blood tests scheduled in am. We have had 4 doctors look at it without any answers. Although they believe it came from the salt water tanks, they don't know what it is or how to treat it. Any ideas???? Thanks in advance!

First things first._ Prayers go out to you, Dwayne and the rest of the family._ Have they tested for Mycobacterium marinum?_I used to go swimming in my uncles pond on his ranch. I've had this more times than I want to admit. Often, they've said, "Your tests are negative but we know that's what it is" and put me on antibiotics until it went away. Are there any bumps on the skin at all? MRSA and Mycobacterium marinum typically have bumps.

One time we got a huge shipment of Palythoa and had chills, numbness, soreness, etc. I felt horrible. However, I was handling a dangerous coral with open wounds so I shouldn't have been surprised.

I'm certainly no doctor. However, could this possibly be a combo of palytoxin poisoning and Mycobacterium marinum at the same time?

not sure of all infections or poisons from saltwater stuff besides palytoxin which is pretty bad stuff and trematode infection.

The puncture wounds have me wondering if they have considered some type of anemone sting or something similar.

I've read that you can be allergic to the stings but show no signs until the stings more or less "accumulate" ( for lack of a better term ) to the point of being dangerous.

Get well Dwayne!

poison help

poison help

Hey Nanook or others who may know. Where can I fine here on Reef Central any info on symptoms of being stung by different creatures. Dawyns wife asked me to look into this to see if we can help the doctors. The only things I know are poisonous at the store are lion and rabbit fish.

I would suggest trying to get a hold of people that spend time in oceans, divers, marine biologists, etc as they have a better chance of seeing these problems since they would spend a lot more time than us in salt water ? Could be a type of paly toxin but that wouldnt explain puncture marks ? Hope this gets better we are pulling for you Dwayne !!
