Dwayne's SPS Elos Tank from Canada

Beautiful I love every single coral you have!!!!:eek1:

Well that is quite the compliment ! Im glad you like them, I kinda do as well LOL

Awesome system man, well done!

Thanks myzislow, appreciate it

absolutly beautiful. the coral colors are perfection

Now you are being too kind, I would not pretend to have perfect colours! Compared to many on this board I am but a student. Thanks though, my chest swelled with pride a little at this.

GREAT tank!!! ABsolutely brilliant!!!

What is the height off the water line of your T5 fixture?

Thanks DB!
I dont know exactly but I would say approx 6" give or take an inch. I keep them a little closer downstairs over the frag table that is only 12" deep, they get blasted !

Looking great Dwayne. You have some amazing pieces, your system is in elite company. Great photos too!

Wow, nice of you to say, I dont agree though, I have a long way to go to even approach some of the systems on this board. Im blushing haha

T5 or vertex illumina on this tank?

Started with a 5ft 200 Illumina, had no success keeping SPS with this light so sold it and put up a 4ft 6 bulb ATI Powermodule, saw a complete turnarou6nd in under four months. I had to wait that long to find a 5ft fixture because its an odd size. So, right now I have a 60" ATI PM 8 bulb. Looking back I surely could have gotten away with a 6 bulb but I thought bigger was better, maybe it was, who knows. What I do know is that ATI T5 grows and colours coral very nicely.
I have a 2ft Illumina 260 on a 30g frag tank, two Radions over my Elos System 70 at work and am just about to sell every one of them. The Radion grows anything green, Monti cap and Digi like crazy but for Red Planet and other nicer SPS I cannot make it happen. The Radions DO grow SPS but I just do not get nearly the colour that I have been accustomed to with T5. Its been nearly 4 months and Im about out of patience. Sorry for the rant, Im sure LED users everywhere will be wanting to do this to me :blown:

Small update.
Added a ReefBrite 5 foot RB to my Powermodule, super happy with the addition of some more blue and sue nice shimmer. I did manage to toast one super nice colony.. My Abratanoid, not happy about that one at all. All other pieces seem to be appreciating the new light.

To drown my SPS sorrows I added some fish

Gem Tang

Also picked up a pair of Tonga Flame wrasse and a pair of Red Sea eight line wrasse (apparently quite rare), they are on the small side and very camera shy so far but absolutely amazing. Happy to have them.
Will post some pics as they allow me to take them :)

Dwayne

what brand of supplements do you use for calcium alk and mag, by the way one of my favorite tanks in reef central

Just amazing, I love your tank and a gem tang!!!!! just insane

Also I wanted to ask about the anthias I see in the FTS, hard to see but are they the Marcia/unidentified species?

Thats very kind of you to say, Thank you
I have been using the Fauna Marin Salts and trace elements. Just ran out so ordered from BRS in bulk 5g pails to lower my cost as I was blowing through the FM stuff. Have been testing ALK daily since the switch over, the BRS appears to be more potent as ALK is creeping up with the same dosing amounts

Beautiful fish! Gems are really hard to find and very very expensive but well worth it.
Thanks, I always said I would never, ever spend that much money on a fish but never say never :) He has quickly become a favorite though, eats everything even though he is half the size of the yellow tang and rabbitfish

Amazing fish!
Thanks dago!

Thanks Acronic! Just trying to keep on the straight and narrow(as my father would say) hands out of tank, check, keep alk stable, check, dont add anything new........ no check. There are 4 Bartlet Anthias and a single "Purple Anthias" thats what it was sold to me as, started with 6 down to one.

stunning...expect a call in the next week or so, I gotta see this tank in person. dave

Had to wipe a tear away Dave haha. Your 250 IS the reason I am in this mess ! No money but lots of coral LOL
You are welcome anytime just give me a shout and we will set it up
I still remember dropping by for the first time, my exact words were " ill take a piece of everything" and I did, at least what you would let go of :)

Are you still running the Illumina? I have a 24" 260 over one frag tank that I am pulling the plug on when I have time to swap it out. Been trying to make it work for 8 months now and ready to go back to T5.

cool. and I am glad you took as many as you did! That fushia really turned into something!!!

Not to highjack, but ya, I am still running the illumina 260. Overall I think it is a good light, I recently added 3 of the UV add-on modules. Does it compare to 400W radiums.....to early to tell. Give me until Christmas and I will give my final answer. My colors have been fine generally, but can't be too hard on the light just yet. I had no luck dialing in my MTC Procal on a lightly stocked 90G so I took it off-line 2 weeks ago.....too big a reactor given so few corals. I just purchased a dosing pump as now is to get the tank back in order.

Did you get a frag of the RR "Diablo" Red stag for that system?

nice! nice! nice!!!!

I did get a frag of the Diablo but its a bit washed out in colour from the T5 coming from 400mh. This happens alot to my sticks compared to when I buy them, some look like they are in a Zeo tank but they are not.

I will be switching the Illumina back to a crappy 36" Tek as soon as I get the time to do so over my frag tank. The twin radions on my work tank are still just "OK" going to give it a bit more time then put the Geismann light back up if I dont see improvement soon

wow amazing :) love the gem tang !

thanks for sharing pics with us

Your welcome :)
The tang looks very small but with the way he is currently eating it wont be long before he is all grown up !

In other news my 1.5 yr old Rosy Scale fairy wrasse committed suicide last night. Friggin open topped tanks

the tang is perfect size ! I was after a nice sized gem some months ago, [lucky i didnt find one :P haahah ]
but I hear you about the wrasse, I lost a 3 year old yellow wrasse last week the same way :S nothing compared to your rosy but we just get used to our fish so much they become kinda like kids.
