Dying dead corals.

I had a nice sized montipora that I lost and was able to remove fully intact I just bleeched it and rinsed it off, but was looking to dye it has anyone ever done this with any kind of success? Let me know what to do if you have. Thanks for your help!

Never tried it, but since an egg is the same calcium carbonate as coral, and it's just around the corner, Easter Egg Coloring Kit comes to mind.
If you do, post pics!

I have a before picture taken, it's coming along ok but not quite as fast as an egg. Left it over night and is say it's about 1/2 way dyed. Ill keep Ya posted on how it wraps up.

Easter egg colours aren't especially waterproof or light fast, I would try a fabric dye if you are into handling toxic materials, but believe it or not kool-aid works as well, just not as well as the commercial products.

its not going to look good in the tank, it will get covered in algae/bacteria/whatever else is covering your rocks.

No not going in the tank, no chance. I have a bunch of old pieces of coral I use as decoration around my tank just thought it'd be cool to add a home grown piece to the collection is all.

What is used for dying coral skeletons is an acrylic dye, the brand escapes me at the moment, I haven't thought about it in years. It is a paste, mixed with water, and then poured over the skeleton. It is not necessarily cheap, and IMO, is not worth the effort, whether or not it is going into the tank. It will never look natural. The stuff you see in the fish stores is cast poly resin. Good luck

If its not going into the tank you could spend some time with simple paints, thinned out so they don't lay on thick, and really go at it. You could get the growth edge to look decent with some air brushing, maybe even find some fluorescing paints and spend way too much time putting dots on it with a tooth pick...
