Dying yellow tang?

Not sure but I think my new copperbanded butterfly stabbed him?
Are the spikes on the CBB dorsal poisonous? The tang has been harassing him since the cbb's intro 2 days ago and been watching the CBB raise his dorsal fin to try and block him but I donno kinda strange any thoughts?

I would expect the opposite with a YT and a CBB. I would expect the YT to beat up the CBB and use its scalpel to wound the CBB. Especially if the YT was previously in the tank and the CBB was added.

Did you QT your CBB.. he may have brought in something that is affecting the YT.

Sorry to hear your YT is not doing well. :sad2:

I think we will need a lot more information. Tank age, water parameters?

150 gallon Tank about 7-8 months, water is perfect, PH 8.1.-8.2 No3=0- No2=0-No4=0- No phosphates salinity is .025-.026, tons of corals hard & soft no disease plenty of cleaners have about 200 lbs of Live rock a 40 gallon refugium with 20+ live sand cheato reef octopus skimmer couple vortech MP40 running in anti-sink..I clean my socks weekly and my skimmer every day Everything looks great the CBB was introduced 2 days ago and as Indy stated the Tang was chasing the CBB, the CBB would raise his dorsal and display his spikes (which I imagine may have gotten the YT in the gill??)

The YT has been a solid fish for 4-5 months eats like a piranha and was deffinatly the dominate fish of the tank that includes a mated per of perculas a 6 line and leopard wrasse,a couple blennys, a coral beauty and a few chromis' .... I have been reef keeping for nearly twenty years and have never successfully kept a CBB for more than a couple months, but as always I dont give up... I just cant think of anything that could be the cause other than those spikes on the dorsal of the CBB that would lead my YT to become so Ill.. Hes lying on his side breathing very heavily I doubt he'll meet sunrise but who knows Thanks for the condolence though it does suck

CBB are one of the most docile fish in your tank. Typical if attacked they turn sideways and protrude there fins. They don't go after anyone like like a tang will with its scapels. So if your tang went after him he most likely poked himself. I have seen this before but never death, hopefully your tang pulls through.

Well the tangs gone :( Im really bummed as Ive never had a yellow die on me from anything but old age.. They are generally such a hardy fish.. even when they get ich they bounce back relatively quickly unlike so many of their cousins.. oh well guess the cbb has a aggressive free tank to acclimate to.. prolly wait a couple months before I get another just to give the butterfly a fighting chance... Thing is a lotta work though all I can get him to eat so far is Rods food not sure what exactly it is in it but hes very picky and only eats one of the fluffy looking white chunks??? thinks its baby brine shrimp but not positive.. Ive tried mysis and plankton but he doesn't seem interested?? I was was reading in one of my books he like MYSID shrimp, went to LFS and they said it was MYSIS and the book was prolly a typo but ive seen it on line too just cant seem to find anyone locally to carry it or even know what it is??? I hope I can get him eating flakes or pellets this rods 2x a day is expensive work :p anyone had any luck getting CBB to eventually eat flakes or nori??
