Early Christmas Present

My ocellaris gave me an early Christmas present. In the middle of a huge party I looked into the tank and saw this. This is their first time laying. I am very excited. They were still at it when lights went out, from what I know, which is not much, on the subject of clownfish spawning, their first is usually small. Merry Christmas!

Congrats!!! yes - they will have more the next time....and the next time... and the next time!

Great pic!!

Yep, the first couple of times will be small (( Like Keri said )). The first 3 spawns from my pink skunks were fairly small, this latest one is darn near huge.

I need to research this topic now. I would love to try raising the fry, not now, brain on overload. I have out of town relatives staying w/us for Christmas. This was just what I needed to cheer me up, so so tired.

Might want to pick up Joyce Wilkerson's book on breeding.

But, I wouldn't worry about doing anything about it now. Let them keep spawning for a couple of months. Then you could add a ceramic tile to the tank, and then slowly move it closer to their spawning site -- it would make it easier to move it to a rearing tank.

I was planning on getting rid of this tank, replacing it I have tons of scratches inside on the glass. I guess that would disprupt them and they'd stop laying. Oh man this is making me think it is not such a good idea. I will not worry now, I need to live through the holidays then I can decide what to do. This is so exciting though my first eggs, I can't believe it. I will look for that book, thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated!

Sure thing.

As for replacing the tank and it disrupting their spawning, sure there is a possibly of that happening. However, there is a chance that it won't effect them, with the longer you wait, the lesser the odds of them being upset.

When I moved from Chicago to Lombard, my Clarkii pair were spawning within 2 weeks of the move. Granted, they are a bit weird, nothing seems to stop their spawns, they will even stop laying eggs long enough to eat, and then go back to it.

Thank, that makes me feel a little better. I hate looking at the scratches on this tank. I may just start after the new year, such a big project is daunting but nessesary. Have a happy holiday everyone, mine is lookin good!

Linda, Merry Christmas and what a nice present. Is the house ready, see you in about 10 hours. Like Toddrtrex moving them should not be a big deal. The move will be much less stressful than when we tore the tank down last time. We can talk about the “switch” and tank option later today before Santa comes…

The last teardown got them to host. Replacing the entire tank, live rock, sand etc, I think this one will be much more involved. But we can worry when the time comes. Who are you voting for to get the rotten onion? The kids are forming an alliance, too survivor. They are ganging up on someone, time for counter measures, I'll fill you in later.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

That's ok let them form an alliance, We have the wisdom age brings on our side. Remember the masterminds we are dealing with like Brandon, Justin & Chris. They don't stand a chance...
