Saturday 4/26 is Earth Day and the official opening day for the Binghamton Ross Park Zoo. The zoo is already open on weekends depending on weather. Mike Janis asked that a few of us be on hand to do our standard "dog and pony show" at the display. You don't even have to believe in global warming:)

One week from today is Earth Day and the official zoo opening. Due to the incredible weather they have already been having record turnout. I will probably be there from about 10 to about 1 or so. Anyone who wants to help show off the reef can feel free to join me. And of course the new seahorses will be on display.

We can also use a few more soft corals if anyone has anytyhing they can part with: shrooms, zoos, rics, nepthia, etc.

I should be able to make earth day also. Only softies I have would be xenia and kenya trees. If you want them let me know.

Thanks Paul (lighting director:)). Gladf you can come, but we can't use more xenids or capnella. Thanks for the offer though.

Thanks Adam. We can use zoos and shrooms and even elongata. But I'm trying to gety rid of the kenya trees. We also have plenty GSP.

I'm not sure what day is actually Earth Day. I kinow all week is Earth Week. Most celebrations/events around the country are taking place for obvious reasons during the weekend.

The zoo asked if we could be on hand for a couple hours in the AM and do an "education spot" at 11:15 Sat. AM. Basically they would just like us to show off the two displays, talk a bit about the nature of coral reefs and ecological threats to their health, and about our own organization (STRS). Then the otter talk starts at 11:45. So I plan on being there a bit before the zoom opens at 10 to make sure everything looks spiffy. There will be a seperate day where the media will be asked to come out for the seahorse tank. Mike (zoo director) wants it to receive special focus and didn't want it to be drowned out in the Earth Day opening.

There was an amazingly good turn out for the opening day due in large part to the terrific weather. The zoo is breaking all sorts of attendance records. People seemed to love the reef and seahorse tank. Thanks to Adam, Vince, Steve for coming by. It was so crowdedm we really didn't have opportunity to talk much about the displays but we helped answer some questions. Also it appears that the newspaper wants to do an article on STRS so I'll shout when I hear more./ So thanks to all the people who helped get things ready for opening day.

Great job...to all you guys that have participated....that is awesome! Hope to get there in the next few weekends to check it out.

Hello,
Yes I have replace the hot water heater in the house but I ended up missing earthday at the zoo. Are you still interested in frozed cyclopeze

Thanks paul but Vince and Adam were kind enought to bring some baby brine and cyclopeeze. However, despite this, I received word that the pipefish passed on to the big drink in the sky. That is my bad really....I should have been prepared with live food eg. live rotifers or the like. We can discuss how to try this again. We will still use the cyclopeeze etc for the non photosynthetic gorgonians.
