Easiest and valuable fish to breed?

What are the top easiest and what are the most valuable fish to breed? I had two clowns but they never mated. One died two days ago and then the other died yesterday. All my water results looks great. I'd love to bread something that could help pay for itself, any suggestions?

i would go with your standard ocy's or percs. but you will 1st want to find out if your LFS's will buy them from you. the regular ocy's and percs seem to sell the best, although they sell cheap they sell fast. yes you can breed the more expensive designer clowns but you will also sell them at a much slower rate IMO

Occys are easy and will sell for a pretty good price. but i would try to have multiple setups and breeders with two adults and an anemone per tank.

My black ocelerris pair won't even touch my anemone so I agree with shifty. They only hang out in my hairy mushrooms.

If you had 2 clowns that just died and you don't know why...I'm not sure that you should be thinking about breeding for profit, at this point!

I'd hate to lose an expensive pair of clowns so definitely make sure you clear that up firsy

Every book I've read on this subject says not to use an anemone. The feeding required will hurt the water quality and hurt the anemone.

any lights will work for breeding clowns if thats all thats in the tank, if you have an anemone or corals then the lighting will need to be much better

Most important part of lighting is to make sure it's on a timer. IIRC 14 hours is what you want to get clowns to breed.

Hairy mushrooms like Rhodactis? If so, be aware that they will eat fish.

After looking into whats involved with breeding the easiest marine species, Im pretty sure it would be more profitable to setup a large frag operation and sell corals instead. lol

I think you are right. The only advantage to breeding fish, is lighting is pretty much home depot specials. Corals you need good lighting and the electricity along with it.

I'm into breeding because there's something about bringing a creature into the world that has a personality. I would not describe a coral as cute in the same way people think Nemo is cute. Anyways. Breeding isn't a good for profit hobby. Most guys say they just want to break even.
