easiest sps to keep?

Poci's. Pocillipora damicornis---it's a fast grower, and very tough, lower light, about like a frogspawn: they repair their own dings. The montiporas are very forgivingb, and after them, I'd put ac. valida, which isn't a fast grower. Oh---and ac. yongei---the green bali slimer, which is a great learner's sps: it will slime if annoyed, so you know where you stand with that one; but it likes light. I enjoy a mix of the sps/lps, because sps don't change too fast...Sps're going to like metal halide best: I use a 250 in a 52 gallon corner. You may be able to get by with less, but the coloration may not be all you could wish with anything other than mh. I did use the actinic/high output fluorescent once, for about 5 years, but I can't say we ever kept sps. It was barely adequate for lps, and we did fine with some of those. Sps was not a possibility in those dinosaur days. Good luck with the notion---I enjoy mine, no question.

Captive bread Digitata Montipora Coral IME has been very easy to keep, even under PCs (3x65w + 1x96w) though it is not as colorful as ones under my MHs.

Thos are actually two of the first sps I purchased as small frags several years ago. They have both been fragged many, many times:)

how demanding are they for lighting?

do the branching monti come in different colors?

They require low/moderate lighting, but then most of us stickheads have halides.

and YES, the branch types come in:
green
purple
yellow
blue
etc etc

nice I will have to find some of the branching monti's.

I got a frag of monti cap today from one of the guys in my local reef club, its brown with green polyps, very nice.

does any one know what a frag of the branching monti's should run?

thanks

A frag of monti digita (branching) shouldn't cost more than 10 or 15 bucks(for green or orange) since they arre fast growers and are commonly avalible.

I am fairly new to sps also and added 5 frags of monti caps about a month ago or less that I got from a local freind. They have already begun encrusting on the rocks and have probably grown at least 1/4 inch around the edges. They seem to be very easy to keep.
Good luck.
