Noticed that my mp40 would only run for an hour after I unpluged it and found out they will only last about 4 to 5 yrs. I drill out rivets changed out the battery with one I found on ebay $40 free shipping. Installed new battery and case with self tapping screws. New ecotech battery backup is $160:bigeyes:

I'm having visions of an Optima Bluetop hooked to a battery tender.

I have a diehard platinum battery hooked up to my vortech. During a storm I was without power for 5 days and it never stopped. The only problem is the space needed to store the battery.

This battery is better if space is an issue and you can diy this battery for about half the cost of the vortech battery.

How long does it last on battery now?
Ecotech says it should run for up to 36hrs at a lower speed :uhoh2: I have 1 mp40 in my display and 1 in my sump , I just unpluged it at 3:45pm and will let it run until it stops . I will report my findings hopefully in about 36 hrs.:spin3:I got both my mp40s in 2008 and they still work great .

I stopped it at 24hrs.!! Because I have over 100 sps frags in the sump for an upcoming show and didn't wont to chance anything happing to them for a little experiment. So glad I tried this because my power hardly ever goes out for long periods so I never knew if it really worked for that long.

I did the same thing. Rather than pay Ecotech £180 for a new battery, bought one off ebay for £30. The rest is just a metal casing...they charge £150 for that...
