easy water changes on larger tanks!!

I put a T with valve on my closed loop, which I then routed pvc to my floor trough with drain which makes water changes as easy as turning a valve. For refilling the tank I have a 200g container with valve and 1.5" hose that is put in the sump. Everything is gravity fed so no need for more pumps.

How did you install your floor drain? I would install a drain but it would require going through my sauna and my laundry room before I got to the main drain

I had it installed when we built the house. The tank was a huge part of the home build and I planned for it. If you can put a drain in even , I would. The drain saves me so much time and effort and since the tank is in my basement the hassle of carrying 5g buckets all over the place.

So you are looking to drain a large amount of water out of the DT quickly to a drain a long ways away to facilitate water changes, and the path of least resistance is through the ceiling?

If that is the case, I would simply run 1 inch PVC over to the drain (keep in mind you'll need a trap of some sort if you're plumbing directly into a drain...) then have a barb and length of flexible hose connected to any submersible pump. Pop the pump into the tank, hook up to the barb, drain until you're happy, refill.

Having the ability to simply flip a valve and gravity drain into a drain is preferred of course. If you have a plumber come tell him you want a drain for a washing machine in that room (it's a generic drain with a trap in it you can plumb directly to if you want). Depending on the floor setup it might not be as costly as you think.

HTH!

Are you changing water or just draining your tank? and if you want an easy way to drain it maybe you need to install a draining floor. And you need to call a plumber for that.
